Never cared for his articles, I remember him calling Phaneuf a dirty goon when he still played here and we jihaded the comment section. That said, I don't perceive any of that stuff as over the line harassment.

The "won't argue with a woman" comment was stupid, as was sending anything from his work account. . . .

However (and this will likely be an unpopular opinion), if you're wanting to be taken as a serious journalist and not as a sex object, don't use this as your avatar:

Seriously - she's cut off half her head in order to include some cleavage.

Any woman who acts as a professional deserves to be treated as a professional and in a respectful manner. On the other hand, if you put your body on display and tweet things like this yourself, you lose the right to be aghast when people comment on your body.

LOL @ this post sequence.

Maria Camacho @Mariia19 · 22h 22 hours ago
If the Denver post doesn't come to us, the let's go to the Denver post. I'm gonna tweet them until we get an answer. You should too.

Maria Camacho @Mariia19 · 8h 8 hours ago
Looks like @denverpost won't be doing anything about Dater. Pretty ridiculous.

Maria Camacho @Mariia19 · 8h 8 hours ago
Speaking out is meaningless if people continue to get away with it. The @denverpost is supporting harassment.

Maria Camacho @Mariia19 · 2h 2 hours ago
My take on Dater. The greatest part of everything is that he admitted to his mistake and he's getting help. I wish him the best.

Maria Camacho @Mariia19 · 2h 2 hours ago
Second part is that women can now feel safe to not take any crap for men. We're allowed to love this sport like anyone else and be equals.

I need to work on not feeling guilty and understanding that it isn't my fault. It's really difficult.

surprised we got to page 2 for the predictable 'asking for it' garbage to be trotted out.

the idea that women need to 'act professionally' to 'earn' the respect of men is the problem.

Guy slipped up it's unfortunate that it cost him his job. Can't help but feel he let his guard down because of maybe past conversations or business encounters in which this women was perhaps flirty. JMO
On the other hand this is just another examples of the dangers of social media and ones career.

I remember this too (not the jihad, didn't know of CP then), but rather saw it on the CBS Sports boards I used to be on. Didn't it have to do with the Conroy-Stillman trade? Like in response to a Calgary media member claiming the Flames fleeced the Blues or something? I just recall the St. Louis media member saying he would keep a "very close eye" on Conroy and the Flames' progression versus Stillman and the Blues (in other words, he was taunting the then-terrible Flames for never being able to be as good as the Blues again - this was the pre-cap NHL days). He was very arrogant about it.

I hope he did keep that close eye he claimed to, as it was just a couple seasons later when Conroy helped lead the Flames to within a goal of the Cup. Would've loved to hear his thoughts at that point..

I liked Dater's updates on the Avs. Too bad he's got issues, but at least admits it and will get help.

Three things

1. I'm personally not a fan of this. I don't like Dater ... but getting fired for being a creep seems excessive to me.

2. flameswin, step away from the keyboard

3. Colombian women

How about the idea that professionals need to act professionally to earn the respect of other professionals, regardless of their sex?

It was Ms. Camacho’s choice (and not a smart one) to use that photo as her avatar. She has no call to act butthurt if it attracted attention.

Screw Dater. He acted like an idiot and is now trotting out the 'substance abuse' mea culpa in order to not fess up to the fact that he acted like a creep, which should absolutely get you fired.

Not condoning his behaviour, but this seems like she's just trying to get attention by publishing a private conversation. I don't know the full details, but why not take it to the Denver Post herself instead of playing the victim card on twitter?

She was inviting trouble with her avatar. You don't post images like that and not expect to get lewd comments. Of course she didn't deserve what Dater posted but she should have known that situations like the one with Dater could occur.

Because now thousands more people are going to go to her twitter page.

Men making the rules on what constitutes a woman being sexually provocative/unprofessional and then using said rules to dismiss the abuse and harassment of women. Here comes the old patriarchy train.

I have to disagree. A valid point was made.

Her picture for her avatar was not done in a manner fitting for a professional or someone looking to gain attention in a professional manner. The photo is attention gaining, but it doesn't say professional at all. There are plenty of other female hockey bloggers whose avatar photos are done in a tasteful and flattering manner, some even showing some skin so that's not the issue. She very easily could have cropped it differently so that her breasts were not the focal point.

I'm not excusing his comments, but I think the way this went down was pretty lame and I don't even like the guy. Just public shaming and attention seeking. It's ugly.
