Will we ever see white jerseys again on home ice?
I am feeling nostalgic. I have been watching a lot of 90s hockey lately, and the white jerseys at home is much nicer.

No way! We're the "C" of red, not white.

A couple years ago they wore white at home twice in a short time as other teams (Vancouver for one) had a short trip and for some reason had to wear blue on that other stop, so they only packed those.
Negates the "C" of Red, so doubt it ever becomes a regular thing.

Please no. It'll be even better when we have the retro reds going again.

It's a better C of Red now.
The WHL has at times switched whites for colours after the midway point of the season. That's one way to handle the jersey colour "controversy".

I still say the retro whites are our all-time best unis. If the retros became our default home/away, I'd be down with it.
I'm fine and totally used to darks at home, but back in '03 when the NHL made the switch, I didn't like it. Took me a few seasons to get fully used to it.

I love red at home. They should make it the home teams choice, like the NFL.

I know. I think of it as the "sea of red" though.

NHL did that too in 92/93 for the league (or Stanley Cup's) 100th anniversary.
The controversy really is just a matter of logistics. Teams started with the third jersey trend, and those were coloured jerseys almost exclusively. If those were to be worn at home for a game, meant visiting teams had to sometimes pack two whole sets of uniforms and all that went with it like extra helmets, on the whole trip. After 9/11 and the checks at the airport were longer, so made sense to change it up in part because of that too.

I actually think if the colours don't clash, both teams should be able to wear non-whites.
Like Flames Red against Oilers Blue.

I'm appalled they don't do it in the AHL.

It was Hockey Night In Canada that suggested that the NHL switch in 1970 to the home team wearing white jerseys in order to show off visiting team’s away jerseys (which were deemed more interesting) for colour broadcasts. Which team wears the dark jerseys has changed back and forth in the forty years since, with currently the home team now wearing the dark.

I heard somewhere that originally the reason that whites were home, colours on the road was because lack of on-the-road laundry facilities to get the bloodstains out.

Really? That's a thing? I thought they all took charters, and wouldn't go through the same rigmarole as the rest of us working stiffs.
