Do they call someone up or just go without a spare for the next game?

Can't call anyone up without putting someone else on IR or demoting a player (Knight). They will certainly go with what they have tonight then evaluate.

Only troubling thing is when it's an impending pregnancy, everyone that follows the team is usually fully aware and states that as the reason, if not right away then soon after.
 Hopefully everything is okay.

They haven't called anyone up yet. Even if they did, they wouldn't likely be able to get them to Arizona in time for tonight's game.

Most of the time, a "personal reasons" return is because of a wife going into labour (I don't know if his wife is pregnant), and everything goes smoothly and the player is ready to return for the next game. If it's something more than that and he needs to take more time off, then they'll likely recall Wotherspoon for Tuesday (even if it means sending Knight back down to make space).

Why would you put Jooris on D when we have six D with the team right now?

Smid and his wife are expecting twins in February, so it's not an impending pregnancy.

Hopefully everything is okay.

She's already pregnant
Either way, twins are always at risk of premature delivery.

Hopefully this is a good news story unlike the last time an impending father left the team.
Twins at 7 months wouldn't be too unheard of or that bad for the children. Hartley (and Burke) also seems very family oriented so could be a number of reasons he left.
