Default TSNs Quarterly NHL Award Winners

Nice to see our boys getting the recognition they deserve.

Hart
1. Giordano
2. Crosby
3. Tarasenko

Quote:
Giordano has been outstanding for the Flames. What he does on a game in game out basis has allowed the Flames to rekindle thoughts of the playoffs. Vladimir Tarasenko gives the Blues something they haven’t had since Brett Hull. A scoring threat who can win games single-handed.
Vezina
1. Rinne
2. Quick
3. Halak

Norris
1. Giordano
2. Brodie
3. Weber

Quote:
If you are the MVP, then it follows you are the best defenceman. Brodie deserves accolades for forming a duo that is arguably the NHL’s best defence tandem. His abilities complement Giordano and he has been a huge catalyst for the Flames’ success. Weber will remain in the Norris discussion for the foreseeable future. Nicklas Lidstrom began his annual hold on the Norris Trophy at the age of 31 and Weber is looking to follow suit as a top defenceman in his thirties.
Calder
1. Forsberg
2. Ekblad
3. Gaudreau

Quote:
Forsberg brings skill, power and intensity that is leading the way for the Predators and leading the way for the Calder. Ekblad’s maturity may not be widely noticed but he is playing very effectively in a very difficult position for an 18-year-old. Can Gaudreau follow a Hobey Baker Award with a Calder? That is the question now, not whether or not he can play in the NHL. Klingberg has been outstanding in his first eight games in the NHL. The sample size is small but if his play continues over the longer haul, he will move himself into top contending status.
Lady Byng
1. H Sedin
2. Voracek
3. Hornqvist

Selke
1. Toews
2. Carter
3. Bergeron

Jack Adams
1. Hartley
2. Desjardins
3. Therrien

Quote:
Hartley has high expectations so regardless of what others’ expectations were for the Flames, he has done a magnificent job. Keep in mind that he has lost three centres to injury: Matt Stajan, Mikael Backlund and Joe Colborne and they continue their winning ways. Desjardins led the Texas Stars to the Calder Cup championship last season and is showing a deft touch with the Canucks. Hopes have rebounded for the team in Vancouver. Expectations may not have been higher anywhere than in Montreal after the run to the Conference Final last season. The Canadiens are showing they are a team that don’t rely on any one player and their coach has instilled a belief in the team that they can be better than last year.

Wow, that is some serious recognition for the Flames.

How's Edmonton doing?

If these are the finalist at end of year I can see the Flames sweeping many awards. What they have done is amazing probably story of the century.

And all of it is no good.

Normally I don't care at all about those awards (probably because the Flames haven't had legitimate candidates in a long time, plus I hate the Eastern bias), but I'm really excited that people start to give credit to the Flames. Who would have thought that TSN would ever rank Giordano and Brodie at 1 and 2 in Norris voting? Certainly not me, but those two have earned it to be in this conversation. If (and that's still a Kanzig-big IF) we make it to the postseason, Hartley is a no brainer for the Adams. As for Johnny ... too bad Forsberg is playing lights out. Will be difficult to catch that guy. Have Caps fans committed mass suicide yet?

Kudos to TSN for giving credit where credit is due.

I think that's a safe prediction. No PIMs so far this season.

I don't know about Monahan getting the Byng.... last year he only had 8 but he spent the summer with McGrattan and he's going to start playing more important roles and facing tougher competition. I can see him starting to throw his weight around if he needs to.

He's out. He's had two hits where he accidentally ran into someone.

I think these awards are very accurate, and I can't really argue with any of them.

The Flames have really surprised during Q1. Let's hope it stays this way.

Feels good man. It seems like a long time ago that everything surrounding the Flames was negative. In a little over a year we've gone from a laughing stock to a Cinderella team.

It really wasn't that long ago when you think about it; Iginla, Kiprusoff, and even Phaneuf were all contenders only a few years ago. Then consider a team like Edmonton that hasb't really even contended for a real award in 25 years (since Messier left). So if you put things in perspective the Flames have done pretty well in terms of award recognition.

Flames would clean up if this is when the awards were handed out! Who knows, they may keep it up and this all could pan out. Johnny G just needs to keep working hard and the points will come.
