Sorry Setoguchi but the hard cold reality is that hopefully you do not get recalled back up at all this season.
So many other players like Granlund, Ferland, Jooris, Sven have jumped up the ladder and even though they have 2 way contracts the Flames coaching staff is not keeping them held back.

I remember that nutcase. Do you remember he would growl like a rabid dog. Hence his nickname Sasha the Pitbull. 54 PIM's in 19 games for the Flames lol.

So, when do we officially hear that he cleared?

Craig Morgan @cmorganfoxaz
@NHLFlames F Devin Setoguchi cleared waivers, GM Brad Treliving is currently meeting w/him to determine plan. Flames play at Coyotes on Sat.

I have to say, while I fully agree with putting Setoguchi on waivers, doing so the day they played SJ was a tad harsh.

I know that Jones came back, but Knight solved that. They could have waited one more day.

Adirondack re-assigned Nathan Moon, and it sounds like Corban Knight will be called back up.

I guess Seto is going to the AHL?

Well he has played for two teams in between. Plus, if he dressed, he'd be in the position of playing 4th line, 6 minutes, in a barn where he played on the top line, against guys he played alongside. Maybe that would have been more embarrassing.

"Hey 'guch, how's it going?"

"Ummmm - Hi Joe - it's going fine".

"Sure it is, Devan. Sure it is".

It's not like San Jose is his former team anymore really, he's been through Minnesota and Winnipeg.

personally I wish Devin all the best and hope that he goes down to the AHL and finds again what he has lost. It's easy to say "the guy just fed off Thornton", but let's not forget that he was still a 20 goal, 40 point scorer in Minnesota for two seasons. I hope he regains confidence and scores a ton in the AHL so that he can earn another NHL contract somewhere or can get a great offer from Europe.

I liked the signing when it was done and I still do. It was a no risk move and an insurance in case the young guys weren't ready. At the time, no one expected Josh Jooris to be an NHL player in whatever role. Michael Ferland had nearly missed a whole season because of injury while Markus Granlund was recovering from a season-ending injury as well. No one expected all those guys to step up like that and play their way onto the team like they did, so signing Setoguchi as a safety net was a smart move. It just didn't pan out and it's the right call by the Flames to move on.

Good luck Devin. Too bad it didn't work out.

wonder if anyone would take a chance on him at 1/2 price if we were to eat salary. There were rumblings teams in the east were interested in him over the summer and he'd come really cheap. Team like Carolina, Buffalo, etc.

Hes already on league minimum, how much cheaper do you want? And hes just passed through waivers, any team in the league could have had him for free.

Why?

Setoguchi hasn't played in San Jose in 4 seasons, he's played with two teams before joining the Flames and has played back in San Jose previously. Not an issue at all.

Good to see the Flames sticking with their word. SureLoss disputed a lot of the whining about Setoguchi always playing before others but as guys come back we want our best line up, regardless of veteran status.

I think he may have been thinking of 1/2 price re-entry waivers, but they were eliminated in under the new CBA.

Based on this and the subsequant assignment to Adirondack I'm guessing they did offer him $125.00 waivers and he elected AHL assignment.

Well, also if the Flames had traded Seto they could have presumably retained half of his salary, but most teams can afford a league minimum contract and if they cant its unlikely that half of league minimum is going to make much of a difference.

Further, why would a team spend assets (presumably picks) on someone they could have had for free via waivers?

Unfortunately for Seto, nobody wants him and that is a tough pill to swallow. His options right now seems to be limited to: Kick ass and take names in the AHL and earn a callup or play his contract out and see what next year brings.
