They've even gone so far as to say that ONCE the issue is fixed, they'll then reimburse my account with a partial refund because "then they'll know just how long customers have been impacted".

I should've bailed on them long ago, but quite frankly - Telus isn't exactly a company I enjoy dealing with. Incredibly frustrating.
I just moved to Mount Pleasant and was just wondering why it was so slow...

The thing is that they are both so up and down, you can't hate either one forever, because that means that you're sticking with the other one through their crappy period.

I remember a phase when Telus sucked so bad, even calling to figure out the problem meant waiting on hold for (no joke) ~3 hours. So incredibly frustrating. But then there was the unbelievable incompetence of the Shaw installers and the crappiness of their Gateway system, that practically forced me to give Telus another try. Now Telus is good again, but this is also because I live in a Telus friendly neighbourhood (note that there are neighbourhoods where Telus suuuuucks balls)(just like Shaw).

Both companies have similar problems in different areas. I used to live in Woodlands, and every evening around 8pm, the internet would just slow down to a crawl for like an hour. For me, that was the time that I wanted to use it the most. Dinner eaten, kid to bed, woman watching some TV show, I get to come to CP and read the yammerings of strangers that I feel like I know? Nope. Each page took like a minute to load. Excruciating. Of course, a few km north, and a few km south, not any problem at all.

Shaw did the same thing in other places I've lived. I've been back and forth (but mostly with Telus) for years. Get used to it. My personal preference is Telus, but I'd go back to Shaw if Telus started acting up again, like it has done before.

Now that I think about it, maybe the hold times were more like 1.5 hours... But god damn, were they long.

You should call in or tweet @shawhelp, the more people who complain/threaten to cancel the quicker you'd think they get to fixing the damn node.

I switched from Shaw to Telus when I moved back to Alberta a few years ago. It's been perfect service ever since. Bill's a tad high for my liking, but that's Canada for you. I pay $75/mth for 50/15.

My contract with Telus is up and Im trying to decide what to do. I don't love it but don't hate it, so dont have loyalty either way.
I called in and asked what they'd offer me if I stayed with them. The issues I have with them is horrible wifi throughout my house (especially second level) and their remotes are garbage. It drives me mental that I have to press buttons repeatedly and shift positions to get the IR connected between the remote and box.

I need a 4th box as well. The rep offered, if I do a 3 year contract, no charge on the 4th box ($5 per month savings), a wireless booster setup ($100 savings apparently) and $40 off my bill for 6 months.

The offer is pretty underwhelming considering I'm getting a wireless booster for free just to make their service work better.

Anyone have any recent dealings with them to see what else they offer?

I have no loyalty to them. I switched from Bell which was great but expensive for what you got and I still had to run shaw internet. I have no problems going to Shaw if I'm going to get the best deal there.

I was offered Basic HD, downgraded BB50 to Internet 25 and basic home phone by Shaw for $94 last week, since my "new build" promo from Morrison is about to expire. If I want to keep BB50, it's an extra $20/mth. Post promo price is $170/mth + tax.

Is that a decent deal? I got a Gateway and 1 portal hand me down from my brother in law and Shaw is gonna give me a free HD box to use for the bonus room.

I'm paying just under $100 for HS 25, Premier TV and a phone that is just part of some promo. Got a bunch of credits added and some other tv packs added.

Seems like a decent deal. Or if you're like my neighbor you can just keep switching between shaw and telus every 6 months and just keep getting the promos.

We need more competition! Paying for internet is more expensive than my electrical bill.

I finally dumped Shaw and switched to Telus.

They haven't run the fibre drops to my house yet (they will soon), but I'm still pleased with performance. Currently on Telus 50 (and optik TV etc.,). The install went very smooth, and the tech they sent was probably the best ISP tech I've dealt with.

Good first impression. I'm happy I switched, as Shaw was an absolute nightmare to deal with. They know the node in my area is screwed, but refuse to do anything about it. Made switching an easy decision.

I think personal experience means a lot to people, probably as much as price. I have been loyal to Shaw for a few reasons. Mainly their service has been good, and when they screw up their CSR quickly credits you as a gesture. Plus during the flood they came to my house with a care package and wired me up immediately. Telus was no where to be seen during the flood.

Reasons I will never use Telus include their sales guy who came to sell me their new fiber service show up repeatedly at supper time to sign me up after I told him I would get back to him because I have kids and supper time is the worst time to talk.

Also their install tech who nearly smoked me, wife and baby on Friday pulling out into traffic in his white Telus truck because he was texting while driving.

Ya, there is about zero chance I will every use those guys again, regardless of price.

My parents had a nightmare with a Telus tech back in their old house. They wanted the modem in a room upstairs but the tech never told them there was no line. So what does he do? He drilled a hole in the carpet to pull a new line... but I guess the carpet got caught on his drill and it ripped a hole about 3 inches wide. So what does he do? Move some boxes we had over the hole so we didn't see it. Called Telus about it and they refused to do anything about it.

My girlfriend moved into a brand new apartment that had a contract with Telus where they had real discoutned services. Only she had to wait for about 3 weeks before someone would come. The time slot they gave us was from 8 am to 8 pm... tech came right before 8 pm telling us that their node or something was full and we couldn't have any services. Called Shaw and they got us in in 2 days. Telus just seems like amateur hour, horrible customer service and horrible techs.

I have about a gazillion more stories about Telus that I can rant on and on about. Or maybe I just have had a great time with Shaw. Their techs seem a lot friendlier and more knowledgeable.

What does the Optik TV install consist of now? Do they run Cat 6 to the main PVR and use wireless devices for the other tv's?

My install is on Friday after 7 years with shaw. (shaw's internet was useless on the weekends)

I'll be switching to Telus when I move next month.

After switching jobs and now installing services for both in new communities, talking to people from both companies, seeing first hand the difference between their standards, the different wires and cables they use, and the different methods of installing them, it's become pretty clear who the more professional and serious company is. It's not shaw.
