This thread which was once so great with Seto on waivers is now depressing me that Eakins was a flame. How do I wash the filth off.

Yep he did in 2000-01 season for 17 games then got sent/loaned to the AHL Chicago Wolves. Back for 3 more games the next season.

AHAHAHAHA This explains EVERYTHING!!
He's coaching them poorly ON PURPOSE cause his heart is still with the Flaming C!!! There can be no other reasonable explanation!

I've seen that picture before. I assumed it was a photoshop by someone trying to imply that Eakins was a mole secretly working for the Flames.

It looks photoshopped. It looks like he's barely aged since that photo was taken. Which is impressive, considering he coaches the Oilers.

Really surprised that so many people didn't know Eakins played on the Flames briefly.
To blow minds further, there was some talk/rumor in 1996, during training camp, that UFA Kevin Lowe was going to join the Flames, but Edmonton stepped in and signed him near the end of camp.
As incredulous as that sounds now, that was nothing compared at the time to the Flames actually signing Steve Smith the next year, then Grant Fuhr.

I guess Setoguchi have no reason to complain that he didn't get a chance to prove himself. He played more enough. It was a cheap gamble for the Flames that didn't work out so no big deal. I know we are all hoping that he regains his scoring touch. He is still young but it seems that his scoring touch won't be coming back. So with one spot taken off, it looks like Josh Jooris will be here to stay once everyone gets healthy. Flames just need to get rid of another player so Flames can keep Granlund all season. Perhaps Stajan?

Oh God... I'm going to get a period-correct Eakins jersey, and wear it up to Rexall.
(Assuming he's still employed in April)

You would chalms.
If anyone can pull that off, you can. I believe in you.

I think management knew we had some guys who were close. We had more than Treliving originally thought, and I imagine he's much happier about that than he would be if Setoguchi spent the entire year on the roster playing like he has been purely because we had no other options.

I like your thinking! Cheap signing, lots of cap room, and a good "challenge" (albeit a bit of a straw man) for the kids to go and knock down. And -- if he happened to work out -- well, you got a cheap decent player.
Little downside, lotsa upside.

I actually knew about and remember this from years ago when he played for Calgary. I thought we were all cool with it, which is why I didn't say anything.
Who would have thought an NHL tweener born in Florida would end up coaching the worst team in Canada's gulag. That must suck.

It's too bad that it didn't all work out. Hopefully when he is in Addy he can regain some confidence and be an excellent mentor to the young guys there
