The Flames brass seems like they would do not only what's best for the team but what's in the players best interests too.
I would agree. I could imagine Treliving and Burke wanting to show that Calgary is tough, but fair. Reasons why they would rather let Camellari walk than take a lowball offer perhaps? I personally think it's a reason to respect the team and give them a chance (small chance to attract players to our team).

I also can't imagine taking measures to really destroy someone's reputation when things don't work out helps you attract other players. It's beyond unprofessional at that point.
It's like a date. No one likes the crazy ex who goes on a field day trashing you after you part ways.

Well most of us knew that this was a bad signing when it happened in the middle of summer, but oh well it's the owners money not ours.

See you later Seto, thanks for coming out. Still think firing him from a cannon into the sun would have been more entertaining than putting him on waivers, but c'est la vie.

It would almost be less of a big deal than waiting a night.

Matthew Lombardi walked away from a two-year deal with the Rangers for $800,000 per year to go play in Switzerland this year. He's older, has a bad history of injuries, and never put up anything close to Setoguchi's numbers in the NHL.

If he can get a deal in Europe, you'd think Setoguchi would be able to as well.

From a humanitarian standpoint it kinda sucks to see. The guy tried his hardest, but man was he terrible.

From a team standpoint I'm pretty stoked to see all these kids pushing the vets and management to make decisions to fit them in. I'm REALLY enjoying watching Granlund/Jooris/Ferland play (on top of Gaudreau of course). It's an awesome problem to have as an organization.

Flames haven't officially announced the waivers yet, so I am fairly confident that another transaction will/has taken place today and they will announce it at the same time.

I'll only be okay with that trade if Perron agrees to wear a non tinted visor.

With their first coming back he is free to even color it pink.

I still don't think it was a bad signing. We had the space to take on a project and we did. I hope we continue to do this at every opportunity even if the majority never turn out. It was a zero risk signing for this team and I don't think they should have any regrets.

I am a little disappointed at the vitriol by some fans surrounding Setoguchi. Don't get me wrong, I am glad that the franchise is moving on, but I wish Setoguchi nothing but the best.

Lets just hope someone here talks to Johnny Boychuck's aunt next year and gets us the inside story again.

Devin never looked comfortable out there. He had a couple games where he looked solid, but he just looked like somebody playing afraid.

It's pretty disappointing he didn't bury any of the scoring chances he had. Opportunity was given, he didn't fulfill it. Hopefully he finds his game in Adirondack where he should be getting better playing time.

The Setoguchi, Bollig and Engelland signings are doing exactly what they were supposed to do: Take roster spots so that youth has to push for them rather than just assuming they're good enough (ala Edmonton). Treliving and Burke are probably high fiving each other now that they can waive Setoguchi.

We haven't had the defensive injuries to need to bring up any dmen, but guys like Wotherspoon and Seiloff are better logging big minutes in the AHL than banking 5-10 in the NHL. They (and anyone else on the farm who's doing well, haven't been following it much) will get their shots. Injuries, if we fall out the race they'll get called up, if Diaz and/or Engelland become a reason we are losing consistently. Many options and that's why these guys were brought in.

I think management knew we had some guys who were close. We had more than Treliving originally thought, and I imagine he's much happier about that than he would be if Setoguchi spent the entire year on the roster playing like he has been purely because we had no other options.

I expect Jones, Diaz, and some combination of Stajan, Glencross, Bollig to be moved by the end of the season or in the summer. I'd like to see Engelland move, as I'm sure most would, but his salary probably handcuffs any deal. We're better to keep him and eat the salary than have to include more in a trade to have someone take him. Were not strapped for cap or cash. If you can trade him at 50%, go for it.

I don't think he was afraid, it really seemed like he's not an NHL player. He belongs in the minors where his skills will transfer. He was very slow with decision making, something very few people can adapt to at the NHL level. When he was with Thornton he just had to put his stick down but we don't have a Thornton in his prime, farewell Setogouchi. Have fun playing in the minors still making buttloads of cash.

I really don't think Setoguchi was awful, but he wasn't very useful. He was just meh most of the time, never really accomplished much, and got outperformed by the younger guys by a wide margin.

Honestly I'm surprised it took this long to send him down.

He scored at about the same pace for the Wild and his first year in Winnipeg, so it wasn't all Joe. He was always a minus, which I figured was his bigger issue coming into the season.

I'm like FlamesAddiction - there's no reason to hate this guy. I didn't see him have any games without effort. I think his effort kept him in Hartley's good books as long as he was. But he just wasn't even close to getting good scoring chances as a result, and that's concerning. I'd blame linemates and asay he should have been playing with Monahan to build his confidence but that ain't right .

I thought he was either out of shape or has an injury he's kept really quiet. Oh well, maybe in Addy he can work it out. He will be probably top 6 on that team and he's still relatively young. If he puts some points together and one of the kids gets hurt or really falls off he might be a call-up. Of course, if he's successful and is called up, there's a good chance another team grabs him for cheap.

I forgot he was even on the team. So strange to see a guy who had some prior NHL success just evaporate away from being NHL calibur, but I guess it happens from time to time.

Sounds like the Pens are in dire need of wingers, he should do fairly well with Crosby and Malkin.. maybe.
