Of course. We knew this story was coming of course. Interesting they used it on the front page above the fold as part of their redesign launch.
I will say, as the article suggests, there have been a lot of meetings over the past four years. More frequent of late, and some more details around their proposal are starting to emerge (much more recent than the timeframes of the quoted exchanges). But again, not much to really comment on until there's something concrete/formal for the City/Mayor/Council to consider.

let the billionaire pay for his own toys, he wants to increase his profit margins then he can pay for it, the city has better things to spend money on then Mr. Edward's pocketbook.

FTR, I have no problem giving the Flames the land and the city paying for infrastructure changes (most of which are already badely needed). Combining a Crowchild/Bowtrail/Memorial/14th St re-do with the new arena is a perfect way to justify shutting down that area and doing something not just satisfactory, but possibly innovative and interesting. I agree that the City should be paying for new roads, LRT expansions, etc... but in no way shape or form should the city be putting funding into the actual construction of the building itself. Obviously there are mixes (like the possibility of the LRT going right through it), but I like to think that the people we elect, and the people running the Flames, are intelligent enough to figure who should pay for what when it comes to that.

The City will extend an LRT Line to the Arena eventually.

Eventually, I would like to see the Flames Management and Players ride their bikes to the Arena. This is more sustainable then them driving their big fancy SUV's to the game.

Nice to see the process may be starting soon. I imagine nobody will be more excited to start talks than Nenshi who loves to debate above all else. It's all part of the process as there will be many disagreements/opposition in between now and the day of the ceremonial shovels.

He loves to serve his city above all else. I know people are cynical about politicians, but it's absolutely true, the guy lives and breathes the job.

One of the owners does, separately from the Flames ownership.
** It's irrelevant anyway, they are 100% not moving to that ghetto location.

Hang on now, just how much does Spendshi pay you to talk him up like that?
I guess all is lost seeing as there is not a single member of the mayors staff that happens to like the Calgary Flames...

I was thinking more of land swap plus more from the Flame's persepective to offer city hall.

Just read the article. At least it is weeks instead of months. If it was as many weeks as it was months, than we should hear something by summer. That is a baby step forward.

That would be funny if it wasn't so true (and sad). My expectations are super low for this ever being announced.

I hate how people keep referring to the use of public money. Let's make it real easy. Let use zero public dollars and give right of first refusal for ALL events held the new arena and/or stadium to existing season ticket holders of the Flames' organizations. Any leftover scraps can then be offered to the public. Little do people realized, lots of people use the Dome. I'm sure that they'll be screaming then.

He lives and breathes to argue especially if it's in front of a microphone. I don't think he's a terrible mayor or anything but I don't think he's been fantastic either. He's a bit of a self-promoter and all we have seen since he's come in is annual tax hikes and nothing shows a lack of creativity more than simply upping taxes every year.

Fire Park would be a good location for a new Greyhound station.
