17 games 0 goals and 0 assists. Points are not everything, but this was eventually going to happen.
Hopefully flames follow suit with Setoguchi

Would be nice to see Treliving also admit he made a mistake with his signing and shoot Setoguchi out of a cannon into the sun.

It's not even like there's a mistake to admit to.
We expected nothing, we got nothing, so we've lost nothing.

I would even condone the use of public funds for the construction of the cannon.
Ken King: "We need some civic funds for a construction project."
Nenshi: "I told you, the City is not going to give you money for arena!"
Ken King: "No, no, nothing like that, we want to build a cannon so that we can fire Devin Setoguchi into the Sun."
Nenshi: "Oh, in that case absolutely! Hey, can I borrow the cannon when you're done with Devin?" **Nenshi asks while signing the cheque**

Is there a cannon at Fort Calgary or the military museum that we could restore for this project?

It wasn't a mistake. He took a chance that Setoguchi could resurrect his career. He hasn't. That's on Setoguchi, not Treliving.

A restoration project is what got us into this problem. No more projects.

Wasn't Joe Colborne a bit of a project too? Sure they're different but they were both still projects. Low risk projects like this aren't that bad because really what did it cost the Flames to get Seto. cap space?
I do agree that it's time to move on from it though....I just don't think we should give up on projects all together.

It's barely a problem, if one at all. Setoguchi is taking up a roster spot, a roster spot that could easily be moved to the AHL if the Flames wanted. It was about the lowest risk move one could make in hopes a guy finds his game again. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't cost Calgary a thing. And I can't think how anyone could spin it negatively considering how many young players have gotten shots on the team this season.
TJ Galiardi cost the team a 4th rounder, Seto just cash.

Setoguchi is making like a million dollars on a one year deal on a team that has more cap space than anyone. No harm done. We all knew what it was when the signing happened.

The only "harm" is a roster spot which another, more productive player could slot into. Anyone called up has played better than Setoguchi has. I think the sample size is enough to tell he's not going to regain any form with Calgary.
Waivers please.

750K IIRC.
Setoguchi is perfect for Calgary at the moment. A warm body. Someone to sit rather than having a prospect do so. The only argument for Setoguchi being punted off completely from the team is if people feel Bollig should be sitting all the time.
As for Galiardi, feel bad for the guy since he is a Calgary kid. Plays hard all the time too. Just no offensive ability at all (except when Jumbo Joe was feeding him). Thought he would have been a decent depth scorer on the Flames (though at least he was a great forechecker). After his miserable season last year, figured a team that took a chance on him might be 'buying low' and get a great forechecker with some depth scoring - but nope.
This might be the end of him in the NHL as it looks like for Setoguchi. Funny how they were both signed for low-term and dollar as free agents from opposite teams, and are essentially doing exactly the same.

Gaudreau, Baertschi, Ferland, Grandland, Jooris, Knight and Max Reinhart are all young player that either started the season on the roster or have gotten time this season. I don't think anyone can honestly make the claim Setoguchi has harmed anyones ice time.
