I wouldn't. They beat Anaheim and shut out LA and Nashville. They're a legit elite team

I would definitely have Pittsburgh up there over a few Western teams. The only threats in the East are Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay. You're right about Montreal, their record is pretty misleading.

Agree with this. Pitt would place high in the west and a healthy Boston and possibly even Tampa would do OK. Montreal, NYR, Wash etc would be cannon fodder though and wouldn't get a sniff of the top 8.

Ha. We'll see about that. I agree our scoring will likely come down a bit, but I don't think that'll mean significantly more losses. These kids won't stop pushing, whether they get down one goal, two goals, etc. Resilience and relentlessness in work ethic is what's paying off for this team and I don't see that going away any time soon. If they have to shoot more to get the goals, then they'll get more shots. These kids have bought into what Hartley is preaching. Hiller and Ramo will give them a chance every night.

The "regression monster" can eat it.
regression is real. The question with the flames is can they improve enough over the course of the season to offset the regression that will come. The good sign is that our goaltending has come back to earth now and we are still putting up wins.

Also with 25% of the season done even with average stats going forward we would mkae the playoffs as getting lucky early gives us enough of an edge to stay above water. So the question people should be asking isnt can we sustain our current pace but instead will we regress past the point of being an average team. Right now we are at 1.3 pts per game which would project to 106 points. Dropping to an average of 1.1 pts per game would still get us 94pts.

So are we good enough to be an average team once regression kicks in. I am starting to lean toward yes but the next two weeks will reall show where we are at.

As long as Gio and Brodie don't get injured, I'd say our chances are above 50%. We need to be just slightly over .500 the rest of the way to grab a lower playoff berth. I think that's absolutely doable. I mean, what signs point to the team slowing down any time soon? Aboslutely, lulls will come. But if we stretch our record to 8 or 9 wins above .500 before then, then a dip won't cause us to tumble out of playoff contention. That's the best thing about a hot start. Need this to keep going another week or two and I think we will be set, even if we stumble a bit later on.

Well we lost but the important thing is we must have raised our Corsi and Fenwick, so we have a better shot at the playoffs, right?

Yeah, other than our time on the powerplay, that game was pretty ugly for us in terms of getting dominated.

In all fairness, he was probably drunk... He might be looking at the wrong year for stats or something or maybe he just isn't looking at team stats, more individual stats or maybe just player names.

"Jooris?? who the hell is that?? Any team that has someone on it that I haven't heard of must suck"

Shouldn't Edmonton be 14th then?

This is why I have nothing to the The Score anymore. Apparently The Score has no one who knows a thing about hockey that reads this before posting.

It would be a real treat to see the flames keep their pace, subsequently forcing Drance to slowly elevate them in his rankings a few spots at the time while grinding his teeth to a fine powder.

Don't look now, but 4 of the top 5 teams in the league are from the east. The way is really a tale of haves and have nots.
