Quarantine duration needs to be taken into account when trading for any Oiler.

Stick any 3 of these guys in a good organization and I think they earn their 6 million. 5 million in today's NHL usually only gets you a second tier player.
It is still far too much to give a guy on a second contract to a guy who had one good season on a last place team. Even local media think Eberle is really a 25 goal and 65 point guy.

I would argue that the three contracts given to Hall, Eberle, RNH prove how thoughtless the Oilers are.

I would take any of Hall, Nugent-Hopkins, Eberle, etc. But they'd have to come cheap! They're all reclamation projects at this point. I just hope they don't get McDavid and ruin him, too.

6 million for a 65 point player is pretty fair. Unfortunately in today's NHL a lot of players are hitting big pay days on their 2nd contract. There are a lot of things that play a factor in that. In the Oilers case I think they were betting the players would improve and be good value in the later stages of the deals. For Hall your already getting good value. He would probably be an 8 million dollar player if he signed today. With Eberle your getting about even value. Hopkins your probably not getting value because of the injuries. If these guys improve though like you would expect of a young players, 6 million could look pretty good in a couple years. They got enough term on the deals where I don't really see them as being bad deals. i think what hurt them was Hall and Eberle both got pretty fair deals so they probably felt a bit obligated to give RNH the same deal even though he probably should have been a bit less.

The Flames lack players who are goal scorers, so I think Perron would be a decent pick up. If he can score 30-30 in Edmonton, he'd be pretty good anywhere else. He plays LW, but it's a bonus he has a right handed shot, could probably play with Hudler/Colborne on the RW.

There is only one person on the entire roster with any heart. Joey Moss. That guy is (I'm being dead serious here) the only brightness in the Oilers org.

The ONLY oiler worth a piss.

I'd worry that Yak would ruin the dressing room. Schultz could be a decent partner in a bottom pairing (> Diaz in my humble opinion)

So basically I would entertain the idea of packaging Schultz and Yak for a 2nd and a 3rd!

Hall is all. Maybe Nurse. I like Eberle but not sure he is what this team needs. We should start a bring Hall home campaign.

Hall and Nurse are the obvious choices but price would be really high. I think both would make great Flames though.

Perron - only because he plays physical and puts in more effort - and apparently doesn't like the way Edmonton has been playing. I would welcome anyone from Edmonton that actually calls out that team.

Yakupov - I still think he will be a very good player (and a RW to boot). Decent speed, physical and a fantastic shot. Plus, I would say he is the hardest working out of their wunderkids who actually TRIES to play defence. He looks lost more often than not, but at least there is some effort there. I also think he is young enough to not have been 'ruined' yet. Put him with a good coach for a couple of seasons, and I bet he helps you win more often than not.

Nurse and Draisaitl for the obvious reasons that they aren't ruined yet. I also like Yakimov (thought he would be a complete bust, but I do think he will be a decent bottom 6 NHL'er with fantastic size, though he needs to get better at skating or it will never happen for him). I also like Khaira (sp?). Physical, hard-working forward with good size. Good bottom 6'er in the long run I bet. I would also like Brossoit back - liked the kid, but think his ceiling is that of a backup (but who knows, right?). I would like him (and Horak) back just so that they don't get ruined long-term, as they were both 'good kids' (and besides, he is life-long best friends with Wotherspoon).

I like RNH - I do think he is incredibly skilled and has good IQ - but wonder about his long-term health a bit. I would rather keep a bigger (especially after bulking up in the next couple of years) and faster Sam Bennett and a bigger and much better 2-way center in Monahan as the 1-2 punch.

Hall - I would only trade for him if there was another trade lined up to get even more assets for him right away. Has the IQ of a brick, though blazing speed and elite ability. Looks like he won't have a long career with his lack of positional awareness, and I bet he would drive Hartley crazy with his 'drive-bys' on defence.

Eberle - Wouldn't want him for free, actually. Yeah, the kid is a 30 goal scorer, and scoring is difficult in the NHL. How productive would he be if he actually even tried to play a complete game instead of just offence? 15 goals? 20? Maybe? Kid is soft, selfish, defensively unaware and unmotivated. This might be an exaggeration, but to me Eberle is the biggest farce on that team as one of their 'elite players'. Maybe he would prove me wrong after he gets traded and another coach has a year or two to try and change his game, but at this stage I wouldn't touch him for free. If I saw him at least TRY on defence - even just pretend he is trying - I would think there is something there. Kid just doesn't seem to think he needs to do anything south of the red-line, much less in the defensive zone. You don't win with guys like Eberle in today's NHL, and he is nowhere near talented enough offensively to make up for it like at least Ovechkin is (and OV has taken a LOT of flak for his defensive game over the years).

I will include Shultz here as well. Kid is not good enough offensively to even start making up for his defensive game. Does he have a defensive game? I don't think so. I have to occasionally check the official roster to make sure that there is in fact a 'D' listed to his name. Kid doesn't seem to know the first thing about playing defence, and when he gets caught on a bad pinch (which is often) I see him skating slower to get back than when he was trying to enter the offensive zone.

Just what I think with every one of my viewings of the Oilers, which is about every time they play the Flames, and an occasional one roughly once every two weeks or so. Definitely no expert on them or their kids, but that is what stands out to me.

Kind of wish there was an Oilers subforum. So many threads and so much discussion on the front page relates to the Oilers, despite am extremely entertaining Flames team that is on an improbable run.

I don't know why some of you think Eberle would be one to go after. His contract is awful, his defense is atrocious, the only benefit I see from him is the right handed shot.

Eberle will never be a player who can carry a line. What other players were given 6 million per year at the age of 22 after one good NHL season, and not ever having played on a winning team? John Tavares got 5.5 and he's a center. This just shows how crazy it was to offer Eberle that contract when the Oilers did. Hall shows flashes, but ultimately I think he needs a strong leader and more help if he wants to be on a winning NHL team.

I think Nugent-Hopkins by far has the most hockey smarts of that group. In the right situation he could become a good 1A center. But he is the one guy the Oilers need to hang onto given how bad they are at center. He is actually the one I might feel bad for on that team.

Would only be going after Yak at this point, while his value is relatively low for a guy of his skill set. He wouldn't come cheap, but I believe he is he kind of player that still has something to offer, get the stank off him from Oiler mismanagement, and excel under a guy like Hartley.

Hey, if Dubnyk can do it after years of Oiler abuse and probable PTSD, so can Yak.
