Report: Oilers looking to trade winger Perron
Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish is reportedly looking for a top line centre in return for the 26-year-old.
LOL. There is no way in hell you get a top line centre in return for David Perron.
|
Is this an admission that RNH is not a top line centre?
I liked Perron, but he's become as bad as the rest there. I'd give Mac a top line AHL centre for him. Maybe.

The last one I would want is Hall, who I think is the #1 reason that room has fallen apart. He might get there one day, but for the next few years Hall is a problem, not a solution.
|
What are you basing this on? Hall is easily the best Oiler and one of the top players in the league. He actually plays the game hard and I think he would really excell on our team. Hall is definitely not the number 1 reason that team is the way it is.

Can't see them trading Nurse.
How about Marincin for Knight or Arnold? Either one of them can step right in and help their C siuation. And they don't give up a roster player. Marincin is a salvageable asset that we could use (after some reprogramming).
However, I just can't for the life of me imagine trading any of our boys to that dumpster fire.

1) The twitter pictures of Hall clubbing it up in Edmonton, even on nights they are blown out on home ice. You'd think he'd be more broken up about his performance.
2) The well circulated rumours of Hall's standing reservations at certain hotels in Edmonton
3) The fact that a disproportionate amount of his goals seem to occur once the team is down more than 2 goals - leading me to think he's picking them up when the other team has taken their foot off the gas
4) HIs reckless defensive play, which only involves him trying to get a head start on another offensive breakaway.
Don't get me wrong, the kid can score, but I don't think he has ANY idea what it takes to be a winner on or off the ice in the NHL at the current time.

I don't get the hype around Marincin. He was mediocre at best in the WHL, terrible so far in the NHL and way out of his depth at the Olympics.
I know Friedman said he liked him in his 30 thoughts and it didn't make sense. I guess I haven't seen him in the AHL so maybe he has been awesome when down there.

Hall, for some reason, has become the focus point for many people despite the fact he is a much, much better player than any of the other "stars" offensively, actually tries on defense, plays physical and looks like he actually gives a damn. It makes zero sense at all but I guess that it what rivalries do.

So rumours, seems and a made up defensive issue which can easily be attributed to each of the other guys, especially Yak who you seem to like, trump what actually goes on on the ice?

The only players I'd want from Edmonton's entire roster right now are Perron, Ferrance (still think he could be a great team players on the 5th/6th pairing), Nurse and maybe Leon.
I think someone tweeted it out earlier, but it's going to take a lot to work and patience to get most of these players out of their bad habits. Devin Dubynuk is just getting back on track after having his career railroaded by the oilers.

Seems more like something that people who dislike him would blow out of proportion. I checked his Twitter didn't see anything. Id take him in a heart beat if the price was right. People said the same about Seguin and look at him now. People said the same about Carter and Richards and they have two cups now. Surround him with a solid team and he could be a top 10 player in the league.

They could probably get Marc Savard for Perron, does he count as a top line center?

The whole Perron thing makes me wonder if this is managements childish form of revenge for him calling his team out.
"Yeah, he's available" (..but the price is so high nobody will even call)
Basically a big F you

Agreed. Though if we're living in fantasyland, I would say it would be a 3 way deal, with Edmonton getting Phaneuf, and the Flames having to send someone to Toronto.

He's a 6'4" 203 lb 22 year old. Plays physically, has a shot, and can move the puck.
Playing defense in the NHL is an acquired skill and I have no doubt the Flames - and Giordano - could make him a player.
He is not a good NHL defenseman yet, but he has shown that he can be in the future, with some coaching.
He is almost as close to being a regular NHLer as Wotherspoon is (though Wotherspoon is a much smarter player).
Getting a prospect like him, in exchange for one of our forward prospects, would be help balance out our prospect base.

Out of the guys they would be willing to trade, probably Eberle.
I'm a little surprised how much his value, on this board at least, seems to have dropped. I don't exactly have a ton of knowledge on the player, but he always struck me as that solid regular season forward that would prove his true merit in the playoffs. Of course, playing in Edmonton we will probably never see that latter quality.
Right winger, good for a minimum of 25 goals and 60 points consistently when he's healthy. And I really think there's the heart of a competitor there.

Could even swing a three-way and bring back Chris Pronger.

Marincin would immediately make our bottom pairing and has an upside. Meanwhile, we are forward heavy, including centres. Knight has very little shot at making this team going forward. Assuming Stajan is not a long term guy, he's still behind behind Monahan, Jooris, Backlund, Granlund and, next year, Bennett.

you're exactly right. People did say the same things about Carter and Richards and it took them a while to figure it out off ice. When they did, they were awesome. But it took a while.
Seguin is well on his way.
However note that all 3 stories you point out are markets where the players are well beyond media scrutiny.
If I were made Oiler GM, Hall would be the first player I would trade.

Yeah, even if there was any possible deal on the table, trading with Edmonton might not be worth it if it means one of our players/prospects has to go there (except for a couple of players).
Of the Oilers, I would probably take Hall, Nugent-Hopkins, Draisaitl, and Nurse. Maybe Yakupov. I think they would excel in the environment here in which they're not expected to be the savior. Nugent-Hopkins would probably be a better winger than centre.
