You know we can only say these things but they never come true (except this season in Florida, ha ha) but wouldn’t it be nice if the fans “snubbed” the players every once in a while and not show up to a game! You (allegedly) don’t want to salute the fans because they were booing you or throwing your ugly jerseys on the ice…..then try not to lose 9-2 after getting blown away a few nights earlier in Buffalo. I think if the Jones’ Family dropped $500 the night you lost 9-2 on a game to come and see you, you’re lucky that all they are doing it booing you and not waiting for you by your car in the parking lot!
The Leafs win or lose, good or bad, rain or snow have sold out crowds no matter what, so they are a spoiled organization and it’s probably the reason why no one outside of the Metro Toronto has any sympathy for them. Way to go fellas, keep it going cause you guys are bringing reality TV to Sportsnet, TSN the radios, the papers etc. and we (non-Leaf fans) love it!

Honestly, Phaneuf for Yakupov and Purcell might a deal both teams lose.

Oh yeah, the only reason I would chock that potential trade up as a Toronto win is because it would get Phaneuf's insane contract off their books and makes it someone else's problem.

This is rediculous. The salute came along after the last lockout as a way to help repair relations with the spurned fan, and now fans need the constant positive reinforcement.

Regardless of your thoughts on the fan salute, it shows just how dumb the leadership group of the Leafs is if they really didn't think this would blow up in their faces. They wanted to send a message, and now they're scrambling and backtracking like idiots.

It is ridiculous for a number of reasons, one of them being that they started the year doing it, then just happened to stop right when the fans started getting on their case. Bad optics.

		| And apparently, the non-salute - a decision made by the players - will continue.
The coaching staff wasn't aware of the change, nor was management, so the senseless nature of this ill-timed snub was conceived in the Leafs' dressing room and supported by a leadership group whose kevlar is paper-thin after a week's worth of taking bullets over poor play and bad manners (Phil Kessel).

But before any felt is ripped from his sweater - and Phaneuf's been framed for all things wrong with the Leafs this season, let's revisit a few things:

Phaneuf is vocal. He can lash out - seemingly without a filter - and has been known to go after coaches and general managers if he feels it's in the best interests of the team. He's hard on those around him and he's most definitely hard on himself, allowing outside criticism to seep into his world. But know this: As bad as he's been on some nights and as handcuffed as some believe Toronto is by his multi-year contract and $7 million cap hit, there is a trade market for him that's at least 10 teams deep (Calgary included).
 |
Hahaha! I sincerely doubt it.

If Calgary brought in Mr. $7M himself while we have Gio making almost half that, I would not want to see what happens.

Why on earth would the Flames, who seemingly finally have a dressing room in harmony, bring in Dion?

It would be better if it was less obvious, I mean, shill something realistic.

Dion back to Calgary? Why would the Flames want Dion 'Moneybags and Radiodials' Phaneuf back?

Usually the intent is to improve the team.

Calgary should be in the market for another defenceman, but no, they aren't going to take on a $7 million mid-pair defenceman.

		| Salutegate is in full swing in Toronto. |
I have to drive around Ontario and can't help listening to Leaf soap opera.
This reminds me of a child that has to say thank you on queue to Parents prompting.
If its not heartfelt and saluting isn't in collective bargaining agreement then who cares.
The headlines are all "Salutegate..." no-one noticed leafs won a couple of games.
Yeesh. If i was a hockey player I'd switch to tennis.

Leafs were up 4-2 going into the 3rd against the Panthers despite being outshot 28-13 at that point. The Panthers score 4 in the 3rd to beat the defenseless Leafs 6-4 and ended up outshooting them 34-22.
That Panthers/Leafs game was glorious. I would say the fans were 2-1 in favor of the Leafs as most of the regulars made a killing on their tickets selling it to schlubs from Toronto. Panthers easily deserved that game and it was so glorious to see them score 4 in the 3rd to win it since all the Leaf fans were talking smack in the 2nd intermission. Such amazing Schadenfreude.

They may end up making the playoffs, but Toronto isn't going anywhere. Why?

 Toronto is no good.

The only thing the leafs are consistent about is being ridiculously inconsistent. Their highs and lows are extreme and seems to come at completely random times. Horribe team to cheer for.

Jake Gardiner is a terrible hockey player at the defense position. Fairly certain they'd be a better team with him not on the roster.

I couldn't imagine having Randy Carlyle as a coach. The guy is a walking-talking black cloud. When the Leafs were winning tons of games he was still finding ways to take a dump all over his team.
