Can someone go more in-depth on how Ferland looked? Missed the game but am very curious to see how he will rebound after his concussion.

He looked decent. Not aggressive enough offensively compared to what he's capable of, and I didn't see him play a physical game either (something he excels at).

However I recall one shift in particular where he cycled the puck singlehandedly in the offensive zone around the net, attacked the backchecking winger and made a smart backhand pass to the point for a chance. He did the exact same move twice and creating 2 chances out of it as a result.

Ferland also had the key screen that led to the Flames goal to tie it up 2-2.

Good point, forgot about that too. I thought Ferland had tipped it initially because he was so close, great screen.

was really impressed by baertschi and ferland tonight, hell diaz was playing physical and even wideman had a hit and in general wasnt a liability in his own end like last game. Overall a good one to watch

Thought Ferland looked really good, especially for a guy in his second NHL game and coming off of a concussion. He played like he wants to stay here.

I think he also has the advantage of being a bigger guy on a team that needs more size and grit.

I think it's much better if we rode the hot hand for "so long"; Hiller just needs more rest and he'll be fine. I liked our switch them off frequently system better, it just seemed to drive the best performances out of our goalies.

If Ramo turns out a great performance start him vs SJ, if so-so v NJ (who is really meh these days) give Hilller the Sharks gig.

At any rate seeing the stoppable goals go in like that definitely rocks the team confidence and is indicative of fatigue. I believe Hiller will be good if he gets rested properly. But its his 2nd game in 3 days, the 1st being demanding battle to the very end. I guess maybe he was just tired tonight

i keep saying we need to improve our D depth. Our forwards have proven there is lots on the farm to help out when needed, but we dont have the same luxury on the D side. Need some infusion of young talent on D

Which we should've done at the last draft.

Hopefully Rafikov is in Adirondack next season. And Kanzig makes the jump.

Overall it was a good game. Calgary was absolutely dominated in the first 5 on 5, and Chicago was the better team in the second as well. I thought the flames were the better team in the third, especially near the end, but it was all for naught. To limit the Blackhawks like they did really shows how much they've improved since the first time we faced them.
The flames are good enough now to hang with Chicago, though they clearly are the better team. It seems to me that Calgary is exactly where they should be in the standings. Sprinkle in a few more home wins and keep things solid on the road and we have ourselves a playoff team.

Some interesting Johnny things

-Johnny Gaudreau leads this team in team goal differential (goals scored while on the ice minus goals against while he's on the ice). The flames have scored 21 goals while he's playing, yet surrendered only 7. The first thing I said when I saw that was: it must be the powerplay. Nope. Leads the team at even strength as well (15-6).
-He's second in team goals/60 minutes with 3.72 at even strength (first if you discount the few games Granlund has played). That means if he could play the whole 60 minutes, the flames would average almost 4 goals a game!! And that's at even strength!!! It's over 4 with pp time included. Crazy

This team hasn't missed Backs or Staj at all. They will have trouble displacing 3 of these centres.

You may not want to hear this, but we've really missed Backlund. A lot

You just hatin because he makes the Blazers frustrated when he shuts them down. Now he's out in Alberta that's not as big of problem.

Everybody's saying the same thing, all around the league. From what I read the other day, there isn't a single team with an NHL-ready defenceman that they're willing to trade.

That wouldn't help this year.

Very nice. What site do you use for those kinds of stats?
