I agree, we seem to get into trouble 5 on 5 against this Hawks team. I counted at least 3 times in that period where the Flames were hemmed in their own zone for long stretches. The absence of Russell is really noticeable in a game like this.

If Russell's going to be out for next game, they should bring up Wotherspoon. He can't be worse than Diaz.

I actually thought Smid was just fine out there.

I know this is slightly off topic, but I do owner what the Flames plan to do to improve the defence in the next few years. Because whilst we can admit that in all likelihood, Gio, Brodie and possibly Wideman and Russell are going to be our staple guys on the top 4, as soon as one of them drops, you notice it like we did with Gio last season and like we have in the last 2 games with Russell.

Is Wotherspoon a potential 3-4 defence men? Will they trade to get some help? Free agency?

I'm not bothered about help now or at the deadline, but I do wonder what the long term plans are.

Yeah, Sven threw a couple of hits, made a couple of good passes, and got some PP time. Just needs to continue building off the last few games.

We are Calgary Flames, our defence better than your offence. Flames burn you now.

Don't mind him at all personally. On HNIC he was always one of the more level headed ones. Decent insight every. I prefer Hrudey over him but he'd be good as an ice level between the bench guy.

So, we have by my count:

The highest scoring defenceman in the league in Wideman.
The highest points scoring defenceman in the league in Giodarno.
The highest defensive scoring pair in the league in Gio and Brodie.
The most points combined for any NHL defence so far this season.

Any other top spots we want to hold stats wise?

After he said its hard for Chicago to take a team like Calgary seriously. I mean how could they take a team ahead of them in the standings seriously.

I don't mind his as much as others seem to, but on that segment he sounded like a guy that hasn't watched any hockey this year. It's hard for the Hawks to take the Flames seriously? Really PJ? Has he been in a coma for the first quarter of the season?
