The term he's looking for is grade-separated, and yes in a perfect world that's what it would be. But it's probably way too late for that to be an option now. Not without probably billions of dollars anyway.

Pedestrian underpass or overpass would be cheapest.

I don't much like cyclists either but making them ride down the train tracks seems a bit cold blooded!
At least give them a fighting chance to escape

I think we're mostly alright in terms of pedestrian crossings. I don't care to check, but in absolute terms I wouldn't suspect Calgary's train vs pedestrian incidents are much worse than other North American cities with similar levels of light rail development and usage. But then again, that's a short list of cities of which Calgary is pretty much at the top.

SB train just hit a pickup truck at 4th ave. Truck was trying to run the red light.

Edit- now cars are going on the sidewalk trying to get by.

Do C-Trains have dash cams? I'd be in favour of a public shaming compilation of the LRT's greatest hits (and near misses). Not that it would do much to change people's behaviour, but at least it would be entertaining.

I believe they do. All of our buses have them and they save the city tons of money from fraudulent claims.

Would it be such a bad idea to install those arms that block the traffic at 4th Ave? I haven't counted but hasn't there been half a dozen accidents there this year?

It sounds like someone has been hit near city hall. Twitter details are sketchy, but it doesn't look like a vehicle this time.

Two in a day. This happened a year or two ago, didn't it? But both were vehicles, IIRC.

Sounds like a disasterous day for transit riders.

Global just led with this as breaking news. Pedestrian struck, in critical condition.

The pedestrian accident must be really brutal for people who take the train to the Dome.
