Kanzig has been sucked into the culture of dirty hockey in Victoria. Guy plays like a complete neanderthal at times with dirty hits when things aren't going his way, but when he was in Flames camp and in Penticton there was none of that.
Kanzig actually seems like an intelligent guy and possesses underrated hockey sense so hopefully a move to the Hitmen under a different coach that doesn't encourage cheapshot tactics will be a positive move for his career. Having him right under the Flames' noses is great too and awesome for Calgary fans who get to watch him develop on a regular basis.
Glad he is out of that goon squad.
Personally caught a lot of flack on this sight for my scouting report on Kanzig when he was drafted - that he was a dirty dumb player but more and more its becoming obvious that it likely isn't a Kanzig issue but a Victoria Royals issue. So time will certainly tell now that he plays elsewhere.

Now trade Virtaen to the giants for a substanital return and all will be well.
To bad though as I had intended to see Kanzig and Carroll at some point this year and now its just Carroll.

We just traded a Flames prospect for an Oilers prospect? This trade is no good (for the Royals).

I hope he can learn to focus on speed, skill and hockey smarts and avoid too much wear and tear before he gets with the flames.

Honestly we needed another Dman I have had no faith in our D this year outside of Sanheim and Thomas. The loss of Roach and Rissling has been a lot worse than I thought it would be.
Kanzig's skating has improved slightly and his decision making has also improved but if I had a guess at his ceiling? My guess is he will get a few >10 games in the NHL and that is it. But it will be fun to watch him with the Hitmen.
Also eff Greg Chase, he has the entitled Oiler mentality... good riddance. Apparently he has had attitude issues since last year.

The Hitmen always have poor attendance at the start of the season. Mike Moore (Hitmen GM) said it has a lot to do with the weather and daylight savings time. Once it gets darker earlier and colder outside people go to the games more.
As for the trade, I really like it for the Hitmen. Gets a cancer in Chase off the team and brings in a really big and solid D-man to help them on the back end where they haven't looked great this year. Not that their defense is bad, but it was missing something and I think Kanzig will fill that hole.

No they haven't.
Calgary is averaging 7054 fans for their first 10 home games. They were at 7168 same time last year. Attendance always rises late in the season. And yeah, the teddy bear game looks to be ridiculous this year. Less than 100 seats - all singles - is all that's left in the lower two bowls already.
Anyway, nice to see Kanzig with the Hitmen. As noted, we could use a big body. And good riddance to Chase.

I don't know much about him. Is he a legit prospect like Wotherspoon?

He is much more of a project than Wotherspoon.
I would say he is below 50/50 to ever play more than a handful of games in the NHL.

Take it as you will. Supposedly a meaner Breen.
EDIT: Wotherspoon is 21. Kanzig is 19. So I don't think we can directly compare yet. 2 years can change a lot.

Kanzig is a project, but one the team feels has consistently taken steps forward.

He certainly has the physicality - the one area he need to develop is his footspeed. If he can get that to another level he becomes a legit NHL prospect.

Cue the Oiler conspiracy theories that the Hitmen wanted to get rid of an Oilers prospect and bring in a Flames prospect.

Chase seemed to have an attitude issue - makes him a good coiler prospect right there.
