Yeah but that's only the first level of how audio and video is produced.

Last night I was watching the game on NHL Gamecenter from here in Taiwan and I couldn't believe how quiet the dome was. Switched to the Coyotes feed and the crowd sounded fine.
Just opened it up now and watched the Doan goal on both feeds, the audio on the Sportsnet feed was completely off, not so on the Fox feed.
The problem is Sportsnet, not Telus or Shaw.

I can vouch for that. I'm watching on GCL in the UK. There is no doubt at all that the problem lies with the Sportsnet production.
This wasn't as big a deal as last year because I tended to watch the opposing team feed. But now we have Ball and Hrudey, I'm watching the SN feed.
It is really annoying to hear the (muted) crowd noises announcing the success or otherwise of a scoring chance prior to it happening. It ought to be simple to rectify and treated as a priority as it really detracts from the experience.

This is awful tonight. I think the sync is a problem with certain cameras. Close up on Maher the audio sync was decent, but the other cameras it was obvious his lips were moving a different rate than his speech.

Tuned in for the beginning of the broadcast, and I just couldn't handle the delay combined with the zero crowd noise policy. I'll listen to the radio and check out the game thread here. It's too bad, because I really like Ball and Hrudey.

I'm sure its been mentioned, but its got to be embarrassing for the NHL at some point too, no? It's their brand in the end. Perhaps I'll fire off an email...

It's funny too, because the highlight package Rogers puts together for NHL.com has the exact same issues.
This is beyond embarrassing for both Rogers and the NHL.

I noticed yesterday that the crowd volume was on low as usual. But as soon as a goal is scored, you could hear the immediate increase in crowd volume as they started to cheer due to the volume being turned up. Does SN do this because they think it makes the game more intense? As soon as the cheering settled down, the volume knob got turned back down. Also noticed that anytime the crowd started booing, the volume got turned down almost immediately. It's almost like there is a guy being paid to turn the volume knob depending on what happens on the ice. You can hear the small cackle of the static as soon as it happens.

They probably do this so that the commentators/play-by-play can be the focus of the broadcast and not get overshadowed by background (arena) noise. They pump up the fan noise and cheering during goals to get the tv audience excited at those brief intervals but once that is over the focus again is on the play by play.
The broadcasts also don't utilize multi channels (surround) for sound which is probably why they keep the arena sound to a minimum.

Last night, it literally sounded like during the shootout, a person was fiddling with the sound mixer. "Oh, Monahan scored, adjust the crowd volume now".
I think most notable was when they were announcing the Flames PBP crew in the beginning and there was absolutely no crowd noise. At first I thought nobody cared that much about the new and past PBP guys ,but I saw people applauding them. It was a let down for the Peter Maher celebrations, I am sure there was a lot more energy in the Dome than what we got to witness on TV.

The panel members sitting on the ends look like tiny little midgets, because of the stools and the glass table bending the light.
(and its not just Pang!) anyone on the end of the table looks hilarious.

About to apply for a job with Dome Productions which are the mobiles responsible for Sportsnet games. If I get the gig I'll track down once and for all that damn audio delay.

Sportsnet's increased possession numbers of NHL Broadcasting rights correlates strongly with the Flames winning percentage.

Normally I can put up with a lot of little things, but it was annoying just watching the highlights from the shootout again. So distracting when you hear "HE SCORES" as the players is just shooting the puck. It kind of detracts from the suspense of the whole thing, and thus the experience as a whole.
This shouldn't still be a problem.

I wonder why none of the newspaper guys following the team have picked this up. Probably dreaming one day they could have a sweet gig as a SN analyst.

They watch the games in person and probably don't even know there's a problem.

Maybe SportsNet actually exists 3 seconds in the future?

Big improvement on Sportsnet Flames tonight. Someone might finally have listened and fixed the sync issue.
