Victoria trades Kanzig to the Hitmen
Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Sounds like the Calgary Hitmen have acquired #Flames 2013 third round pick Keegan Kanzig from Victoria.
Felt it was worth posting in the main forum.

Damn. Going to the game this Saturday and was looking forward to seeing Kanzig and how he's progressed.
Gotta think the Flames had something to do with Kanzig being real close to the big club. Allows the Flames to keep a close eye on Kanzig's development.
If the Flames make the playoffs and get into D troubles, Kanzig is right there once the Hitmen are eliminated.

Flames have never interfered with the Hitmen before. I doubt they had anything to do with it.
If the Hitmen get eliminated before the AHL Flames, Kanzig would likely go down there and he wouldn't be the first call up to the Flames if they needed a defenseman in the playoffs, probably 12th or so on the defense depth chart at this point.

Yeah i was going to say... he'd be lucky to see game action in the AHL playoffs let alone the NHL. In the 04 playoffs Sutter refused to bring in Dion Phaneuf when we had multiple injuries on defense. Kanzig is no Phaneuf.

That's cool for Calgary people. I loved it when Backlund was here in Kelowna, seeing good Flames prospects every night makes junior way more fun to watch. Interested to hear what else Victoria traded if anything... not a team I expected to go all in for Chase with where they are in the standings.

The Hitmen DESPERATELY needed a big defenceman. As well as someone who could do a little enforcing/fighting. We got pushed around a little too much and like what happened last year, Virtanen got injured fighting because no one else really could. This will stop that.
(Plus the whole fact the kid is a huge Kanzig fan so they will be really happy)
