Perhaps some notes on hustle during line changes can be taken from the press box while he recovers.
Most guys are battling some injuries right now - If I recall, hasnt Smid taken a beating in the last 2 weeks? Hudler is as much of a vet as they come and he found his way onto the ice. Bouma should skip every optional to recover the style of game he plays. Engelland seemed to hurt his hand during the fight...he was on the ice.

IMO, there is no excuse for Glencross to be playing games and missing optional skates when he is playing how he is. Either use the injuries as your excuse for being a step behind and recover fully from them or get out there with the rest of the team and improve your game.
Playing how he is? what exactly is wrong with how he has been playing? after going on a long pointless stretch at the end of October he now has 7 points in his last 9 games playing 18-19min a game and is a plus 1.

I have not watched him closely enough for the "eye test" to back up these stats but is it possible some folks around here are looking at him with too critical of an eye.

In my book, if the guy can continue to play at close to a point-per-game pace while battling through "a barrage" injuries, i'd say he's adding plenty of value to the lineup. Why would you suggest he "shouldn't be playing"?

I miss very few games and, as evident with the success of hockey forums, there will always be 100 different opinions.
The Glencross I remember to be effective had a wicked shot, was a power forward and appeared to be fully engaged.

The Glencross of this year has 10 points playing mostly first line and PP minutes, 2 goals...(tipped) and overall just is not playing the flames brand of hockey. Now obviously I am an armchair fan because he continues to get first line minutes from Hartley but surely I am not the only one he sees a much less interested Glencross than the Glencross we have seen in the past.

Jones has the same pts per game (3 goals 2 assists), has played fewer minutes and is good for 1 penalty every 10 games vs the 1+ every second game Glencross is good for.

I don't understand the extreme love for Glenny when CP finds ways to turn on other players so quickly (Wideman, Stajan, Jones)

Just garbage. The whole thing.

Dislike Glencross, fine. But this is getting ridiculous.

Care to elaborate - with such a strong statement you think you could point out your difference in opinions.

And as a person, love Glencross and think he does a TON for the community. On the ice - I feel he has been lazy (or battling injury in which he should do what everyone else does and recover)

Let's have some faith in the coaching, training staff and management when it comes to optional practices, minor injuries and other behind closed door issues with the team. The constant speculation and questioning of every detail is a big reason why many players prefer playing in smaller markets. If there are issues with players commitment or work ethic, the team will deal with it.

Fair enough... I only hear about it within my group of friends. I feel the CP faithful has different views - could be a interesting poll

Does Glenny fit in with this team over the next couple of years?

I personally don't dislike Glencross, but I agree with Realtor on this one. I simply don't see the same engagement that other players seem to have. Especially so far this year. Nagging injuries or not, I don't see him playing as well as he can and with Glencross, it always seems to be effort.

It keeps getting brought up because it is plain as day to some people. This isn't personal.

Edit: I should also add, when Glencross is engaged, he's a helluva player.

Bringing up Hudler (with no indication of any injuries), "taking notes on hustle during line changes", Engelland "seems" to have hurt his hand and is out there skating?

It's just speculation heaped with speculation on top of a predisposition to dislike Glencross because he's not under 25 years old. He still wears an "A" and it certainly doesn't seem like the one guy that sees everything close up and gets to make the call on the lineup and icetime thinks that Glencross missing an optional practice is a big deal.

As Locke said, Glencross is battling through injuries because the Flames are shorthanded as is with guys that can't play (Colborne, Backlund, Stajan and Raymond). If these guys were healthy he'd take a game or two off to recover? Maybe. Bottom line is he's battling through some injuries and he's getting slagged for missing an optional skate. Garbage.

Maybe because - as is being discussed in this very thread - he's playing through nagging injuries?

I think he's been much better as of late despite this. Either way, count me as another that doesn't get what you're watching.

Reality: Glencross is struggling through a barrage of injuries. Likely affecting his core and lower body, which makes is difficult to stay on his feet during puck battles. With so many vets out of the lineup, he is doing his best to keep up against the other team's top lines, so that the young guys don't get exposed. However, he isn't able to play his usual physical style and is concentrating on playing a smart defensive game until he's back to 100%. Spending the day in the trainer's room getting treatment so he can get to at least 80% by the time Thursday night rolls around.

/speculation
I did not want to be specific but the injury he said was the worst at that time, was ribs. Looked like he had trouble raising his arm. He has been usually last on ice and first off ice for the game day skates.

No problem missing an optional, especially when there are injuries. I say this as no big fan of his play this year.

It's always flabbergasting to watch a select few on this forum (and others) who are so quick to devise their own idea about something no one has any idea is the case and then become upset about it.

"I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about here... but if [Insert convoluted concocted idea] is true, then [Insert outrage here]..."

Glencross is whipped on here for basically nothing all the time.

The guy has verified injuries right now, missed an OPTIONAL skate and people are using that to jump to moronic statements about what it means. That is worse than anything said about Wideman or Stajan.

For Glencross has looked to be pretty much the same player he always has been. He is inconsistent but for the most part a positive influence on the team. He seems to be a great fit with Monahan because he is able to play a two way game better than most (maybe all) other wingers on the team. You can have him out when up or down a goal, against the other teams best guys and not have to worry.

This team is already down a lot of guys and players play with nicks all the time in the league without sitting out. If he sat out now there is noboy on the roster that could step in and effectively take his play. Bouma can't offer the offense that Glencross creates, Hudler, Johnny should not be out against the Getzlaf-Perry type lines very often. Baertschi isn't going to step into that role in either capacity. Not a good fit for Byron to be out there that much. Jooris has had good game and is doing much better than expected but should not be playing 20 mins a night in a critical role like Glencross does.

Maybe when everyone is back and you can put a Raymond in that spot or maybe with Backlund and Stjan are back you can split up the tough assignments easier you let Glencross sit but right now it is silly to have him sit game and/or force him to skate at optional practices if it doesn't make sense for him physically to do so.

First day on the Internet?

Regardless, everyone has their own opinion and is entitled to it. I'm assuming you are speaking of people giving Glencross a hard time (such as myself), for not playing to his potential and looking disinterested. Oh well, we don't all agree.

I think you may have me confused with someone else. I've criticized his play a couple times, including once last night. It wasn't irrational - it was based on what I saw. I wasn't the only one who did so. So either we are all irrational, or there's a basis for criticism. And that's from someone who was a huge supporter in the past - I thought he was a tremendous pickup and the best contract in the league at one point.

My point is that, this year, there's a focus on effort and away from entitlement, which I assume applies to veterans. I've aready said, if there are injuries, that's completely different. No one on the team has said that's the case.

But I respect your "it's complete crap" argument. That's totally a really good analysis.
