You don't bench a kid for trying and making mistakes, you bench a young player for being lazy or never learning.
Baertschi was caught out of position, looked silly and tried to make a diving block but what out of position. He obviously isn't the best shot blocker, if it's something they've worked on with him I doubt if it's been a lot. You don't sit a guy or overreact for trying and failing, you bench him if he didn't try during that play at all.
