What a weaselly piece of feces Obama is. He is trying to salvage some kind of environmental legacy out of his flaccid lame duck presidency. Too bad for him that the only legacy he'll be known for is as the President in riding when China surpassed the USA as world super power. And two years from now he get's to ride off into the sunset hobnobbing with his gangster rapper buds and billionaire vanity project campaign donors.

I'm glad Obama's willing to veto it. I hope he vetos everything the Republicans try to do, whether it's gutting Obamacare, the XL pipeline or any of the litany of bad ideas the Repubs try to pull in the next while.

The difference with this issue is that both sides are supporting KXL. O'bams is stubborn and doesn't want to face awkward social situations at cocktail parties with his billionaire enviro-chic campaign funders if he approves it.

Yeah lame duck presidency. He accomplished nothing in 6 years and had zero obstruction to hold him back.

I think his last 2 years is spent having fun, screwing around republicans and outing them for the idiots they are.

If the Repubicans were smart, they would try to be diplomatic and find legit solutions to problems in order to win in 16'. However, from their rhetoric and actions since they won the senate back, that looks doubtful.
In 16, all the tea party guys are up for re-election. If they don't stop being ridiculous the Dems will re-take both houses and likely the presidency.

Right, because no President before him has ever faced obstruction or ever had to build consensus.

Usually, the side obstructing will compromise in the end. The Republicans move the goal posts continually on everything.

they haven't on the Keystone issue. Approve it.
It's been the lame duck who has been non-committal and moved between excuses not to approve it.

In approving Keystone now, Obama would lose a piece of leverage while enraging a lot of allies. There isn't a lot of upside politically.

So in otherwords nothing different from his first 6 years except that he's done as much to make himself look like an idiot.
If this guy wants to cement a legacy as even a halfway decent leader he needs to find a way to work with the houses.
And its not just the Republicans that are turned against him, its his own party.
Bottom line is that he entered the lame duck stage of his presidency far earlier then any other president and he's going to leave the office remembered as a often times confused and indecisive president, who did a very poor job of navigating the halls of power in Washington.
That doesn't bode well for the next Democratic Presidential candidate (Probably Hillary, gawd).

By allies you mean special interest groups with big checkbooks.
Obama has always been obsessed with cash.

Keystone isn't a Repub issue. Both sides are willing to approve it.

What happened to approving it because of economic reasons?
That is his exact problem. Everything has become political.

C'mon, let's not pretend like either of these issues is specific to Obama, or that because they've won the Senate that Republicans are suddenly acting altruistically.

Nobody said it was specific to him. Everyone realizes that Washington is all about politics and not actually doing what is best for the country.
Doesn't make it right though, so lets not act like Obama is somehow 'right' in all of this to disapprove of Keystone because he claims it won't benefit the US.

It would be an interesting study, because Obama has gotten a reputation as a president who has a higher priority in terms of fund raising then past presidents.
I mean would the worst thing that happens if Obama approves Keystone is that he doesn't get invited to one of George Clooney's fundraisers?
