But my personal view of Iginla is that he would be an extremely exciting addition to the locker room. Given how exciting that room would be already if we were in the playoff hunt... it would be an explosion of awesome if Jarome-Frikken-Iginla was suiting up next to Monahan and Gaudreau
|
I disagree. It would cause non-stop distracting drama from the media with ''rampant speculation'' about whether Gio would give up the captaincy to the former captain. Also the question of whether Iggy would accept a reduced role. Highly unlikely. The only way I would want Iggy back is akin to the 2001 Avs like Bourque. It's his very last season, we are a cup contender and everyone knows it's his chance to go out on top.

The Iginla era is over in Calgary. I love the man and wish him all the best.
This team has been on a tear since the Olympic break last season, and there is no way I want Iginla back in the dressing room disturbing the vibe this team has.
Time should move forward not back.

Love his time as a Flame ... but it's over. I wouldn't want to reintroduce him into this locker room. The new leadership group is not established enough to overcome that imo.
|
Because I personally (again, I can be wrong) don't buy that Iginla was the sole factor in preventing a culture change. Having a long-standing captain would have made it difficult, for sure, but I don't think Iginla was personally fighting against change. So I don't seem him coming to the locker room and being any negative at all. I (personally) see him coming in and pushing this culture we have even further, I can absolutely see him on board with what's happening.
But again, I have Iginla-coloured glasses but I really truly believe it.

I don't think so. This is the seasoned vet returning to the new Flames. I can see people speculating, but by no means anything rampant or distracting after Iginla says "this is Gios team".
And Iginla has accepted a reduced role in Pittsburgh, Boston, and Colorado.
That being said, he would be a #1-#2 line RW on this team.

I don't want Iginla back, let alone trade for him. I am fine if he signs a low $ contract, short term deal after his Avs one for a year or two. I do not want him right now.

I get that people blame Iginla for the vibe we had prior to this, but isn't it possible that the vibe of "things are awesome, look at all the success" could be amplified with "look at all the success we're having AND our beloved Iginla has returned!"

Iginla is like the crack cocaine for former Flame loving fans.

I was always an Iggy fan. I just don't see the value in bringing him back. I don't think it's a vibe issue - just that there's no room for an aging winger who looks to be in full decline right now. I know - slow starts. But one year, maybe this one, the slow start will be for a whole season.

I don't want Jarome back now, not right now...
But I do want him to sign a 1 day contract and retire a Flame.
And then, I want #12 in the rafters opening night the season after he retires.

I don't really see why Iggy would want to come back or why the Avs would give him up but he would be a nice addition for sentimental reasons, not sure if he would be a great fit for the spot this team is in.

It just so happens that the Flames have played 41 games since the Olympic break - exactly half a season. In that time, they are:
22-17-2 46pts, +11
Over a full season, that works out to:
44-34-4 92pts, +22
Borderline playoffs and pretty solid goal differential.

We should tell Hudler, Backlund and Gio that there's extra Olympics and they've been left off again this year.

So been thinking about this..
I think at the 20 win mark we can say whether playoffs can seriously become part of the conversation or not. If they're 6 or 7 (or more) games above .500, playoffs start to become a real possibility, as that's coming up to half the wins they'll need to get in and they'll just need to play roughly .500 hockey the rest of the way.
If they're 20-20-4 or something, then it's looking unlikely as they'll be trending the wrong way.
So yeah, I'm waiting until then to really hang my hopes on the postseason.

I could see this team being really close to a playoff spot when the trade deadline approaches. If they are, does it change the strategy for the trade deadline?
Unloading a bunch of vets for picks/prospects might turn into keeping them and making a push.

Or picking up a big name at the deadline with all the cap space we have. The key is to not spend any 1st or 2nds in the process.

I'm not that excited about the trade deadline this year.. Don't think many of our vets are going to get anything decent back..

I dont see us doing anything either. Maybe moving Glencross or Bart for a RW but highly unlikely.
