#BlueJays trade Anthony Gose to Tigers for 2B Devon Travis. Travis was Detroit's Number 1 prospect according to Baseball America.

Hot damn!

Love it, addressed the biggest weakness on the team in a big way.

Now leaves another glaring hole though. No Gose, no Rasmus. Even if they sign Melky he can't play CF.

Opens the door for Pompey, maybe the Jays think he's the real deal?

Just a 13th-round selection in 2012 out of Florida State, Travis has produced markedly above-average batting marks at every level to which he’s been exposed, recording both excellent plate-discipline numbers and also high BABIP figures. The result: a slash line of .323/.388/.487 line in over 1,000 minor-league plate appearances. According to Steamer’s computer math, Travis — who enters his age-24 season next April — already profiles as a league-average hitter. That’s valuable for a player who also appears likely to handle second base.

And it does seem like they want Pompey playing CF.

Who cares, it's gotta be easier to find a CF than it has been to find a 2B.

Travis was the Tigers top prospect.

Quality CF for quality 2B. Hit nearly .300 in AA last year.

Pompey is ready as well. Nice to see some youth in there.

Liked Gose, but I don't know if he was ever going to post above average offensive numbers. if they can get similar offense from Pompey (shouldnt be too hard) and similar defense (we've already seen he's capable) then this makes absolute sense.

Apparently he was moved the outfield last this season.

I know nothing about Travis, but it was clear that Gose wasn't likely to ever be much of an offensive threat. If Pompey can play defense like he did in his brief stint with us then he can easily replace Gose anyway.

Interesting. I'd be shocked though if that was the Jays intent.

This would however seem like a strange move for the Tigers if they planned on using Travis in the OF anyways.

Love the speed Gose had, but man he was frustrating to watch at the plate. He was like a black hole of offense sometimes, just killed the team. Loved him in the field, but hopefully whoever AA puts in there can at least be decent defensively.

Nice. Wasn't a Gose fan at all. Never seemed worried about losing or whiffing at the plate

I liked Gose too, but you can't steal first base unfortunately

Not completely.

Drabek is really the only bust.

D'Arnaud was flipped for the reigning Cy Young winner (didn't work out but that was the value at the time).

Wallace>Gose>Travis is still up in the air. If Travis becomes a + 2B then the trade that aspect really isn't a bust.

I like the deal (just came across it now). I don't understand why the Tigers did the deal considering Gose's major flaws are out there, and despite his young age, will probably not improve. To date, I've never seen in person a better arm - ever. But the guy simply couldn't hit, and even if he were able to get his bat going, he'll never be a consistent threat, or even a threat in general. Detroit's going to bury him on the bench and use him in stealing situations, but it's hardly enough to warrant giving up a guy who can hit for average at the very least. Good move by AA and the Gose experiment was finally up.

Both guys have big question marks in terms of what they will end up as in the majors.

I am sure Tiger fans are wondering why the Jays gave up a guy with Gose's athleticism for a small guy with ok average, no power and questions about his defense.

I think it makes sense for the Jays to take the chance on the 2b prospect over CF guy but it seems like a like for like deal involving 2 guys with potential but big questions at the big league level.

I think it's more they believe gose and his bat would hurt them in the lineup everyday, so they took the best deal they could find. Obviously, it's not Roberto Alomar.

Team is in disarray, but SF and KC only needed 87-88 wins to play for the title, so it's probably what they are shooting for now.
