You're definitely entitled to your opinion but I think your in the minority on that one.

The guy has/had one of the most popular Canadian talk shows ever. He does his research and knows his topics better than most people that do the same job. I'm sure when he has 28 years experience hosting HNIC he'll be at least as good as MacLean.

I'm really saying you should give him more than 5 weeks before you make your final decision on the guy.

Ironically, it actually feels like we are getting less hockey. Last Saturday was an exception, but in previous seasons, we almost always had an afternoon Oilers or Flames game on Sportsnet, or a Jets/Sens game as part of an HNIC triple header. We get more choices now, but largely only the two time slots.

That being said, I love being able to watch the Sens or Habs or Jets, and I support a reduced role for Maclean. Don't like Strombo, and generally hate the panelists Rogers brought in. I find other things to do during intermissions.

So while my personal response to the change at HNIC would be a giant "meh", I find this poll result to be unsurprising. Rogers is F'ing with tradition. That rarely elicits positive responses.

Incidentally, Gaudreau was scratched for a game soon after and began taking over as a key offensive player.
Even better than that...He made the comments during the first intermission of the Winnipeg game, when Johnny had no points on the season and had been scratched the previous game. Then, Johnny got a goal and an assist in the second period and they made fun of Healy during the second intermission.

Gaudreau now has 12 points in 10 and 2/3 games since Healy whined about him.

I don't know if Healy has worked a Flames game since then.

My memory is pretty bad. I thought it was before that Winnipeg game.

I must admit, that's an even better story.

Marginalizing MacLean and Cherry is the right thing to do but you have a lot of older watchers that are set in their ways and don't like change. The only real issue is that the influx of RSN personalities are mostly not of high quality and unlikeable leftovers from HNIC like Healey are still in the mix. It's very likely that if TSN was the one handling things people across the country would miss MacLean and Cherry a lot less but even at that there was always going to be a large number of people that wanted the status quo which IMO was in need of change.

Sooo much of this has to do with people not liking change. This is their first year doing this and I am not at all surprised with this kind of poll. Give them 5 years and that poll will flip.

They could do one thing to make me happier: Replace Glenn Healy with Aaron Ward.

At least Ward can be assuming at times and has a sense of humor.

People still watch the non-game stuff?

I just start watching about 45 minutes - 1 hour late, and then I can hit the "go forward 15 minutes" button on my remote the second a period ends.

Perfect.

True. I haven't regularly watched non-game stuff in years. I usually have music going in the background and just get the synopsis from the forums if anything good was discussed.

I just wish Sportsnet could acquire the rights to the original Hockey Night In Canada song again.

But seeing as it is now owned by TSN in perpetuity you know that ain't going to happen.

CBC sure screwed the pooch on that one.

Personally, I like the new Hockey Night in Canada theme better. I'm likely in the minority there... but I think it's really good. Instant classic in my mind.

I don't know if I like the new song better than the previous one but it is very good. It can be a timeless and classic song much like the theme song it replaced. I was really worried that the HNIC theme song would be replaced by something modern that would die after a couple of years but CBC did good.

I also really enjoy the Hockey Tonight theme song.

This is my new methodology for watching as well...pretty much every broadcast is taped until about half way, that way I can skip all the pre game and between period mess.

I often do that too. The only downside is you can't really follow CP and contribute live.

There were only 5 tripleheaders last year. I think it just seemed like more due to the outdoor games.

I Don't mind Strombo... last couple times I watched him he does a good job leading the conversation, like a good host does. When the panel starts getting into a pissing match he usually calmly changes the topic and things settle down. They ramp up again, and he changes the subject, or asks a specific question to get the panel more focused. He really is like a grade school teacher trying to keep the kids under control.

As with the changes, I'm ok with them, a little more modern.

I like George and think he's doing a good job so far... but man oh man do I miss Ron MacLean and his beautiful intros. No one tells a story with such gravitas in as few words as MacLean did for his HNIC openers.

Very true. George is always trying hard to be cute and amusing. MacLean is far better at injecting the proper emotion and feeling and knows when humour is appropriate.
