Ya I remember thinking there had to be some reason no one knew about as to why they wanted to move Forsberg. An injury concern or terrible attitude. Preds made out very well. These are the deals that get made where I'm sure other GMs see the pieces moving and wish they would have known the player was on the market.

just checked something out of curiosity: Markus Granlund now has 4 goals and 6 points in his first 10 NHL games. Meanwhile, his brother needed 21 NHL games to reach 6 points and 31 NHL games to score his 4th goal. Not trying to say Markus > Mikael or anything like that, but given that seemingly everybody has always heralded Mikael as the far superior prospect, I found it interesting that Markus has adapted to the NA game faster than Mikael did.

Pearson + Severson have cooled off, while Gaudreau and Forsberg continue to heat up.

Yes. 28 points in 29 games in the AHL.
A bit better than our Granlund 46pts in 52 games last year (and 5pts in 8 games this year)

yes, 29 games during the lockout. Markus has played 60 so far, so that might have helped him.

Just looking at Mikael on nhl.com, it shows he played for 29 games in the AHL during the lockout season. Had 28 points in those 29 games, so he then got called up to the Wild and played 27 games, but only managed to get 8 points in that span.
I think Markus is doing quite well and maybe adapting better than Mikael because he was in the AHL for a whole year. Even if he gets sent down again, it will be good for him.

Forsberg is listed as a centre, but has no FO%?
I do think he and Johnny will be there at the end, but I am impressed with the D-men pulling 20+ minutes and contributing offensively. Extra credit to Ekblad as an 18 year old.

gotta say the rebuild is going "a-ok", when you consider we're in year 2, and have 3 guys in the top 20 in rookie scoring almost 20% of the season thru....
Even more juicy is the fact that none of those guys are 1st round picks  ,

Well, Granlund's tied in points. But he is ahead in goals. And in 5 games versus 15. LMFAO.

That says more about the Panthers than Ekblad though. He's got 8 points. That would be 7th on the Flames.
Not to diminish Ekblad though. He's been very good and at least at this early point proving the 'don't draft defenseman 1st overall' theory wrong.

I think the shortened season and enormous expectations in Minnesota made things more difficult for Mikael. In the NHL he tried to prove that he can be physically involved and defensively reliable and spent a lot of time on his ass and didn't have much energy left for offense.
That changed in the next offseason when he took what he learned and worked intensely on strength, endurance, skating. Probably learned to pick his spots better as a small player too.
Markus being a year younger no doubt benefited from what Mikael learned in his first year in NA - and all this without any huge expectations. They train together in the summer. He is physically stronger than his brother, his game doesn't require as much time and space with the puck, and there's no spotlight on him.
