I suspect that has as much to do with how infrequently he has actually been in the Flames lineup as much as anything.
Regardless, when he has played I don't think Jones has ever been terrible. There have been many times when he has not been very good, but much of this also occurred in a time when most of the players for the Flames were performing poorly. I maintain that in the few times he played last year and now this season he has looked generally useful. He gets a bad rap because of injuries, his brutal contract and the cost in the trade that brought him here, but he is predominantly better than he has been judged here.

I agree. I like healthy Jones. Not a fan of his contract, but we can afford it. His strong play creates room out there.

Have to think Setos time in Calgary is up soon. Once our forwards get healthy, he has to be gone. They'll surely send down Max and Sven ahead of him (probably Ferland too), but Jooris and Granny have both easily earned a spot over him. So once we get Raymond, Colborne and Backlund back, he should hit the waiver wire IMO.

I have not been impressed with Bollig whatsoever.
How long do we hold onto "he was good enough for Chicago, he MUST be a good player"

I was hoping that Bollig would be kind of like Jackman was when he first came. So far he is not even an upgrade on Westgarth. Lots of hockey left, hopefully he turns it around.
Nice work by Stan Bowman. Flip Bollig for a 3rd, then pay Carcillo half the $$ to do the job.

Agreed, but with all the near ready forward prospects that the Flames have, Setogucci shouldn't be the only one nervous about his job.

It was always a horribly stupid trade.

yup. Setoguchi is the first to flat out lose his job though, Jooris brings so much more. Bollig is in danger as well IMO, he really has to step up ... personally I think Ferland could do his job while bringing more offense.

The team just looked tired last night. Carolina has picked up their play recently as well, so it was a combination of both.

I'm ok with guys like Bollig and McGrattan sitting in the press box, and being activated once in a while to play against the bigger teams. Ferland won't be a full time NHLer this year, but probably next year. I think Glencross gets traded at the deadline. If we somehow ended up with a lineup like this by the end of the year I'd be happy.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Colborne
Raymond-Backlund-Hudler
Byron-Granlund-Jooris
Bouma-Stajan-Jones
Bollig/McGrattan

Setoguchi has been flat out awful. I know he doesn't get the best opportunities, but in 10 games he's got 0 points and has somehow amassed the worst +/- on the team. He's just not an NHLer any more. I don't know what happened to him, but I'd rather give his spot to a rookie.
I'm not a huge Bollig fan either, but the Flames need his salary to hit the cap floor unfortunately.

No, we don't. Bollig's $1.25M salary is not a deal breaker. In fact, with news of a stagnant cap next year, his $1.25M salary just became that much more attractive to a lot of other teams. We can trade Bollig to a contender in cap hell, take a larger salary back, and should be able to gain an asset in return.

That might be good. I really liked Jackman/Stajan/Kostopoulos as an energy line in 10/11. Only a few shifts every period but it seemed like they made something good happen just about every time.
I know it is hard with all of the injuries and players moving in/out/up/down the line up. But especially with the Flames team identity of being hard working and tough to play against they need an effective 4th line and for the most part haven't had one this year.
I also think that when they get healthyish Bouma/Jooris/Jones could be good too.

Carolina was hot and just took over the game. For the first time this year our team looked disengaged, and I did not like that. Hopefully Hartley gets those boys fired up about a home stand, because we can't have that kind of effort if we even want to smell the playoffs.

I'd get rid of one of Bollig or Setoguchi and sit the other. Probably Bollig if I had my way, because he's even more of a liability on the ice, and I don't think he intimidates anyone. Ferland would be better, if his head's OK. I'd say you have to give Ferland some ice time though, or send him down.

I would rather have Bollig that McGrattan on the ice. Sure, maybe you scratch Bollig for a game or two, but you don't just dump him because he's been struggling over a short stretch of games.

I haven't seen him look good in any game except maybe the first one. I actually trust McGrattan more in his own end. Every time Bollig gets the puck there he decides to eat it instead of clearing, and then he loses the puck battle and the Flames go into scramble mode.

Personally, I would take McGrattan over Bollig. MacGrattan may only do one thing well, but he does it really well.
Bollig is a dime-a-dozen type of player. There are hundreds of players scattered among the minors and Euro leagues that can do what he does. I never understood why we gave up a 3rd rounder for him. A lot of people liked the deal at the time though.
I would be inclined to hold onto Setoguchi if it was between him and Bollig.

Bollig's only ever played one full NHL season (and he's now 27). There's a reason for that.
Maybe Setoguchi needs to learn how to fight.
