A. He's an underachieving winger with no defensive skills. That's not what they need.

B. Salary cap.

Yeah, they've proven a real concern for this.

Actually they do as they are close to the cap and Bourque is under contract for another season. They are already paying a lot of money for some of their bottom 6 forwards. Eakins has enough on his plate just trying to remain employed and doesn't need Bourque's penchant for bad penalties and bonehead plays. If the positives outweighed the negatives he wouldn't be on waivers today.

Nothing to lose? Nothing to gain. He sucks defensively and one of the worst defensive team in the NHL is going to pick him up?

Edmonton makes zero sense. They really have nothing to gain. They don't need another forward who is inconsistent and bad defensively.

Whoa. I'm not saying it's a good move. I'm saying it's a move that a train wreck of an organization like the Oilers might try to make work.

I think we are talking at cross purposes. I don't think they in their right mind would make a move. I guess you are saying, yes, they'd be that dumb.

While I don't disagree, I think they can't afford him anyway. They Have 7 guys over 3 mill already (with 3 over 6 and 2 more over 4).

I get it now. But by saying they had nothing to lose you made it sound like you thought they should do it.

Last ditch effort to get rid of him without taking a contract back or eating salary. Wonder who trades for Bourque after he clears and Montreal agrees to eat some salary?

Bourque is the kind of guy you can never give more than a one year contract. When he's desperate and feels threatened he can be good (i.e. after the Hawks cut ties with him).

I don't know if he has that ability to step up now... but giving him a contract longer than one year is always a mistake.

I think he is actually fairly decent defensively - wasn't he a mainstay on the PK here for a few years, and was a SHG threat?

I still think he is a good player who unfortunately can't play effectively any longer due to constant injuries. I wouldn't be surprised if he still has some concussion symptoms (though I should hope he doesn't, and that the league does a good job of diagnosing it). I agree with the cap-implications - would be very surprised if Edmonton picks him up.

The only teams that can take a chance on him are teams that:
1) Need some size in their lineup
2) Have long-term injuries
3) Have lots of salary cap room next season

I think he clears. Only way he moves is if Montreal retains salary and/or gives enough of a sweetener.

Fucale was widely regarded as the best goalie in the draft and a blue-chip prospect. Some prognosticators pegged him as a top-15 pick. It was surprising when he was still available in the 2nd round.

And since then he's looked like a guy who was probably drafted too high.

Having him back here would have him reunite with Glencross, when together last time, fed laziness off each other.
Glencross broke out of it (for a few years, this year looks like that same Glencross) ,Bourque didn't.

Opportunistic by Feaster, Cammalleri was toxic in the dressing room after his comments the night before, and any sort of return for him was fine with Mtl.

As said before, still recall Bourque shining moment with the Flames, chasing a puck while carrying a clearly broken in half stick for 10+ seconds before getting called on the penalty.

He'll play somewhere this month, Oilers would be an ideal fit. Get MC to manufacture some stats and get MacT on the phone.

Interesting deal to look back on.
The rare sighting of Feaster fleecing another team. Made a great trade that day if only to get Bourque off the team. Bourque, Holland, Fucale for Cammalleri, Ramo, Culkin. Pretty great right there.

Yes, Calgary4Life, he was good on the PK. In his first two years here, before he signed his deal. That deal was like an off switch for his effort level.

It wasn't the injuries. He had the same injury as Brodie and Glencross, and neither had a big setback in their play.
