Weekes on the Web: Fearless Flames

Brief insight on the Flames from Kevin Weekes in his blog on nhl.com that I didn't see this floating around anywhere on here, so I thought I'd share:

The Flames have been excellent, but this really shouldn't come as any surprise if you watched them play last year. They played really well last year. They matched up against a lot of top teams in the Western Conference. They weren't afraid. They beat a lot of those teams.

To quote one coach that I can't name because he was at one point part of the organization (I'll let you figure it out), he said their team can "scare the daylights out of you on any night." That's a huge compliment for Calgary. They can scare you.

Wonder who that ex Flames coach is that he was referring to? I'll leave to those of you that are smarter than I to fill in the blanks with.

Context sounds like a present coach. Clint isn't a coach right now IIRC. But does "scare the day lights out of you" sound like Sutter?

Darryl makes the most sense, especially with how well we played them in LA last season.

2 big wins in the last minute of regulation, that would probably mess with your psyche as a team.

Just wanted to give a shout out to one of the other teams he mentions, the Panthers. They've been much better defensively than anyone thought this year and the better scoring forwards haven't yet contributed a lot to the offense. They're likely not going to be getting another top 5 pick this year.
