Sven come on just score a damn GOAL to
A) boost your confidence
B) make Hartley play you more
C) keep fans from calling you a bust
D) keep me from changing my B to Bennett

Warrener was asking if we really want a guy whose confidence is so fragile.

It's a very good question if it's true that his confidence is fragile. I hope Sven shows something this year. If he doesn't show up this season in the NHL or AHL , I think he's traded in the off season. I also don't trust his agent.

Is Baertschi not justified in being a little fragile right now?
I think we can agree that no player in this organization has received more criticism than he over the last year.
Hell, he was benched after one small mistake last night.
I'd like to see how any other prospect plays under that kind of microscope.

There are prospects in every organization that play under the microscope. Some can handle it and some can't . I think that's what Warrener is getting at.

I just looked at last year. In the first 20 games Joe Colborne had 4 games with less than 7 minutes (Sven had 7:29 last night). He had a few more under 10 minutes. I recall he was playing with high level guys like TJ Galiardi.

I can't think of any prospect that has been more publicly degraded and humiliated in the media by a team president.
I think for any prospect, for any player, that's a hard thing to play through.

Degraded and humiliated? Hyperbole much?
Burke is not above sending a message through the media and so, when asked what he’s learned thus far of Baertschi, he answered: “That I don’t know. That I don’t know. I’m not sure. … All I’ve seen so far is flashes of brilliance. Flashes of brilliance are fine if you’re working in the university, but they’re not much good to people in an NHL building.
“There are three zones in the ice surfaces in this league. I don’t see that he’s learned to play and compete in two of them. He’s got to learn there’s a clock in this league and there’s so many minutes in the game and that you’ve got to compete through all of it. I see this is a guy who’s focusing on one area [scoring] and even then, sporadically,” Burke said. “So I don’t know what we have.
“I’m not ready to quit on a young kid. I’m not ready to throw him under the bus here today and rip him, but I think you can tell from my comments that I see big holes and I see a lack of commitment that’s not going to get him anywhere in my books.”

Sounds like Burke was brutally honest. Then this spring he said Sven had improved, though his production had dropped.

Feasted last year:
Asked about the play of Knight, Ward didn’t sugar-coat things.
Yes, the centre had scored Sunday — as did Granlund — but the coach demands more.
“To be honest, he’s got to play with some passion, some vigour,” said Ward. “This isn’t college — you’re not going to have the puck all the time. You’re going to have to go get it back. When Corban has the puck, I’m fine with that. But when he doesn’t have it, he’s going to have to play like Ferland . . . and get his nose dirty.”

This is good for perspective. Even Gaudreau had to earn his way into the top 6, powerplay, 4on4 situations this year too.

I'm not writing Sven off and definitely want him to succeed with the club.
Agree with others that he looks tentative, and I think that ice time is the best cure for that. However, my bigger concern is his skating. I know he's not a speed demon, but he looks a clear step slower than what I remember. I hope something picks up in that department, otherwise he's going to have a very hard time passing our other prospects on the depth chart.

I think Sven looks like he's lost a step because the Flames are a lot faster now than when he first got called up. He's no slower, he just looks slower in relation to his team mates.

Based on the fact they wanted Mantha - I don't think Sven gets you anywhere near Myers. Though I also don't want Myers.
Sven for Larsson please.

Definitely that.
But my focus has been on the backcheck, and unfortunately he's not catching anyone.
Ultimately it doesn't matter if it's other Flames players making him look slower or players on the other team: both bode poorly for Sven at this moment in time.

I'd be content with a Larsson for Sven swap. I doubt Lou does it just because of the draft pedigree though, but it seems to make sense for both sides.

I really think they have to be careful when trading baertschi. I feel like he'll be like johansen and just figure it out one of these days. Remember, that guy was a healthy scratch for their AHL team in 2013 and now he's far and away their best player.
I know baertschi is struggling but I feel like the fans and the media are being exceptionally hard on him. Would love for Hartley to give him a shot with Monahan again. Hartley follows a pretty strict control of his minutes so far.
