Baertchi hasn't shown anything special in the NHL or AHL this year. He seems more physically ready than ever before, but I think his speed took a hit in the process. He's no longer able to find open ice and is always trying to play the body instead of the puck which isn't his game.

I will say that Baertchi was NHL ready after what he showed in the AHL during the lockout. I don't want to say that Burke ruined Baertchi by sending him down, but it's starting to seem that Baertchi isn't mentally ready for the NHL.

Every other call-up has shown more this year (even Ferland between his brief NHL exposure and success in the AHL). Baertchi is being passed on the depth chart and doesn't seem determined enough to take the next step.

Sven definitely needs more seasoning in the AHL. He still hasn't learned how to compete yet.

Unfortunately, I don't think he's long for the organization. I think he and his agent / family will want a fresh start soon and demand a trade. They seem to meddle in his career too much and feed him a lot of BS, his agent in particular.

Flames won't get much for him though as scouts can see his flaws (see Friedman's comments).

What source do you have for this?

I think 868904 is just making a fairly significant jump to a conclusion due to the fact that Switzerland's equivalent of the Sun likes to go get quotes from Sven's father.

Yeah that's the one, it's over on the other board. Not so much about the father, but the agent Andy Rufener. Sven explained his father was misquoted. His agent though apparently has a history of being troublesome as other teams fans are aware of him.

I could see Sven going to Europe next season as I don't see him ready for the NHL yet. It would solve the waiver issue while we still retain his NHL rights. It worked well for Giordano and also for Backlund when he played in Sweden during the lockout.

Yeah I would be okay with him going back to Europe. Maybe he would be happier and it would show in his play. Let him mature and come back when he's ready to be a pro in North America. He's not going to get the Flames anything back in a trade so there's not much downside.

Now I think you guys are just trying to get Ashasx going.

not sure this is even interesting to you guys, but there was a video interview with Sven and Diaz yesterday in the Swiss media. At the very least you get to enjoy Swiss German, which is nothing but amazing

http://www.blick.ch/sport/blick-ch-z...id3245608.html

Swiss German is a bit different than how we talk here in Austria, but I think I've understood everything:

Sven
* got the call immediately after the game in Glen Falls, rushed to Montreal, "everything went pretty fast"
* very happy to be with the NHL squad again
* aim is to stay with the NHL team obviously
* taking it day by day, knows he has to perform every day to stay up

Diaz
* hockey is fun again to him
* the summer was difficult for him without a contract
* very happy and thankful for the opportunity in Calgary
* happy to be a part of the Swiss invasion in Calgary, hopes all three of them are staying

Sven has been invisible since being called up and in my opinion it's because he's obviously terrified of doing something wrong. It was a close game yesterday, benches were shortened. Not only that but it was a very structured chess match to try to break through Trotz's trap after the Caps went up 3-2, and Baertschi doesn't play a structured enough game yet to be relied upon in that circumstance.

I'm not out-and-out worried at this point, but he's gotta show something soon. He's not engaging enough in puck battles .. a lot of fly-bys. It's like he's permanently stuck between positioning himself to transition to offence and positioning himself to be in the right spot defensively, and the result is he's doing absolutely nothing.

Hopefully a bounce or two goes his way and he relaxes a bit. And hopefully the coaches are being explicit with him as to why he's sitting and he's not left to wonder what he's doing wrong.

It's a good chance for him to show he's matured as a pro and can be comfortable with criticism and taking baby steps instead of wanting to be catapulted into stardom as Feaster was trying to do.

He probably has 2 or 3 games left to show us something before he gets sent down. Raymond should be back sometime next week and I think Colborne is on his way too.

So much time for Sven yet. I would like to see a 30 game stint with him playing consistent ice time. These two road trip games are not enough to judge on. It's a good thing that there are mulitple other young players to take some spotlight and SB can just blend in for a while.

Even Gaudreau took a few games to show up, Sven will too.
I am not writing him off yet.

Initially I agreed with this.

However, the trend with JG was clearly an upward one. With Sven on the other hand... other than his emergency call up (which at this point is a distant memory), he hasn't really shown that we should expect more.

Of course I hope he proves me wrong and I'll be rooting him on, but I am not overly optimistic that things will take a jump.

Did you not watch the start of last season? Sven was more than fine.

The problem, the expectation on Sven Baerstchi after those awesome emergency call up a few years ago was so high so when he struggled pretty much everyone started piling on him. I even remembered some saying he will win the rookie of the year the next season. I think it is time that we think of him as one of the prospect and not necessarily a huge prospect. He is struggling to score but his game is much better as he is more responsible without the puck now. I am sure he just need a confidence booster..maybe when he started scoring goals it'll help.
