I don't agree with that at all.
The international observers will acknowledge that Obama is a lame duck on both domestic and international affairs.
He has done very little to spur the US economy and, not surprisingly, jobs matter to many households.
I don't see this as an endorsement of right wing politics - I see it as a clear rejection of the Obama path

So the American voters reward the party that shutdown the government for weeks on end and cost billions of dollars with even more power. I just don't understand that mindset at all

You think the majority of American voters care about the cost??
Its a drop in the bucket compared to what they spent on homeland security and The Iraq war.
Its all about the donor's money Labowski.

Well if jobs and the economy matter so much, you'd think they'd support the president under whom the unemployment rate has dropped from 10% to 6%. The right sure do love their unsubstantiated garbage.

We can do the same analysis for past GOP claims about unemployment, the war in Iraq, saving the auto industry, bailing out Wall Street and the banks, instituting meaningful health care reform... just about anything major issue that has improved significantly over the past 7 or 8 years. You remember when unemployment exceeded 10 percent; that was Obama's fault. There was a daily drumbeat denouncing the president. But with unemployment now under 6 percent, Obama gets no credit, or the positive statistic is dismissed as unimportant (the same statistics with the same numerators and denominators that were critical when the numbers looked bad for Obama). Obama is responsible for all of our ills and deserves credit for none of our successes. This is a childish, bogus outlook, yet remains central to everything conservative.

Anyways, if you care about tax-cuts more than you care about a group of violent, racist extremists running your state and federal governments, then your priorities are a bit off to me

This is the first time this new wave of extreme GOP politicians have controlled the house and senate. I get Americans voting in a candidate preaching better jobs, even if the reality is that nothing will change, but the level of ignorance on social, ethical and fundraising issues is quite amazing. The guy in Texas that threatened to throw a reporter off a ledge for asking the wrong questions got overwhelmingly voted in.
Makes me really happy to live in Canada.

Impeachment seems inevitable here so that disaster should be fun to watch. As always tip your cap to Republicans, look at the Wildrose here, they try to play the voter anger card and get rejected. The Republicans do it and get a full majority. They're horrible people but they get the job done at getting elected.

I really underestimated the stupidity of the majority of Americans.
Have fun with your
less
-access to abortions and planned parenthood
-environmental regulations
-regulations on Wall st. etc, actually less regulations pretty much everywhere.
-human rights, maybe we'll see some states, ban gay marriage again.
more
-religion, everywhere.
-guns
-tax breaks for the 1%
-tax loopholes for the rich
-private money influencing govt decisions
-shoot first, ask questions later.
-complete idiots running your country.
I really hope they repeal Obamacare, and not because I think it's bad, but because if Americans want to regress, go ahead.

US politics is so depressing, something just has to give down there, I wonder what that will be.

GOP Congress is better for Alberta than Democrats, we will probably see Keystone approved now.

Nah, Obama will veto it just because he can. In fact I imagine almost everything they pass will be vetoed. Americans just voted to get even less done than they were before. Impressive to say the least.

Isn't that they way the founders designed the government?
Sometimes not getting things done is a good thing.

On a positive note, marijuana has now been legalized in Oregon, Alaska, and DC, and simple drug possession is no longer a felony in California. Also voters in South Dakota, Arkansas, and Nebraska voted to raise the minimum wage.

Oh yeah, but most Americans complained about the "do nothing Congress" and blah blah blah, and now they voted for the option that will get even less accomplished. Americans consistently vote against their own interests, and then complain about it later on. It's almost like they choose their voting preference based on who they can complain about later.

I would expect that they will attach it to a bill that Obama really wants passed
the Republicans have to spend the next two years being very productive on the concept of alternative government, if they just veto things it gives the Dems under Hilary a lot of ammo in an election.
Interesting article from Forbes on the real unemployment rate in the U.S. and why the drop to about 6% is deceptive
http://www.forbes.com/sites/louisefr...ent-rate-12-6/
Obama has entered the lame duck part of his presidency early. I doubt that he gets anything accomplished in the phase of his presidency where he tries to establish his footprint in the sand.
