Only got 2 shifts after that. I just don't think that's justified.

I think you want Sven to succeed so much that your mind is telling you lies. Sven wasn't creating anything in the past two games. He needs to go back to the AHL and mature as a player. Granlund, Jooris and Ferland deserves to be on the big club more than Sven does right now.

If I had to guess I would say that he is absolutely terrified to make a mistake. The tentativeness is very apparent. He just needs to look at the other young guys who are making mistakes and realize its not a death sentence. He has improved his 200ft game a lot since last year, he just needs to trust his instincts and go out and play.
Way too tentative.

Well said.
I mentioned earlier he needs to find a way to get noticed and not for all the wrong reasons.
There are plenty of ways to get noticed in a positive way other than scoring... He could go hit somebody, muck it up a bit after the whistle, back check hard (like Jooris and Gaudreau), make a great defensive play etc. Right now he isn't doing any of that whatsoever, and you cannot fault his line mates for that.

He and Backlund are really unknown. Concussion and abdominal strains are tough to gauge.

I don't know how you can see he's not putting in the effort.

His line literally had 2 scoring chances, so I don't think I'm lying to myself.

A game like this makes me smile at the thought of getting Raymond, Backlund, Colborne, and Bennett back sooner than later.

Well, if this is the on ice result with him putting in effort, then he's just not good enough.

I think it really is up to him.

Baertschi isn't blameless. Hartley is obviously looking for something and Baertschi has failed to show it to him so far. Until he does he won't get more opportunities. And like I said in my first post, it's tough to be too tough on Hartley given his success with other players.
But I think it is fair to question if the Flames have put him in a position where he will be able to show him those things.
Like someone said above, I don't get the feeling that Baertschi has the support of the coach in the same way other prospects have.

Hartley shortened the bench in the third and gave Baertschi's ice time to Bouma. Bollig also hardly played in the second half of the game.
If the game had been more out of reach (either way), Sven likely would have seen more ice. On Sunday, he had over 5 minutes in the third.

Earlier poster who called him both the goat and savior was spot on. Everyone has off games, glad we came back.
Ramo should get the next start.
Caps are stifling to watch with the lead. Glad we don't play them again this season (outside the playoffs which would be just fine )

Not to pick on this and I'm sure I'll be flamed for this, but it's a 50-50 split between the player and the team. By that logic, then the only people responsible for the mess up in Edmonton is their young guns.
Has Sven's progress been a disappointment over the past year. It sure has. But successful teams find a way to get the most out of their assets. If the Flames and Sven can find the balance to get this kid's career back on track they are far better off than writing him off right now and calling it over. Sven's NHL stats show that he can play, I'm sure everyone including Sven is probably frustrated that it's not coming together as quickly as everyone wants.
As much as people want to call this kids time over in Calgary the benefit is that the organization has time to turn his career around. IMO it's somewhat of a benefit that kids like Monahan, Gadureau and Granland are playing so well as it gives the organization some buffer room to find the solution to get this kid back on track.

Sven finished with a -1, 1 shot, no hits, no blocks, no anything else.
Setoguchi had 5 hits (most on the team), 1 shot, 1 block. Byron had 3 shots, 3 hits, 1 block. I'd say this is why they got some more ice.
