Well, I'm biased, and I'm sure somebody will respond to my post telling me I was wrong, but I thought Sven had a really good 1st period and was creating some energy. His line had a scoring chance early and another in the 2nd. There were no scoring chances against until Hiller made the mistake on the 2nd goal. Not a single scoring chance against until that point.

Only got 2 shifts after that. I just don't think that's justified.

Grand Robbery by Hiller at the end! Moneyhands with the winner! What a win. Granlund looked like a vet out there. What a fantastic effort from the boys!

I think at some point this season Sven becomes trade bate with Treliving looking to see what offers are out there for him. With the play of Jooris, Granlund, Gaudreau etc I think he becomes the odd man out.

The good news is Sven is just one of our many up and comers. We can't have every single player exceed expectations. Ferland, Granlund, Jooris, Gaudreau are all way better than anticipated. Let's not get greedy here, let Baertschi be a warning to the other players if he fails. Roster spots aren't handed out based on potential, results matter.

So Hartley is supportive of all of the other young players but not Sven. And that leads to the conclusion that it's Hartley at fault? Maybe Sven hasn't endeared himself to the coach through his effort. What I can gather from Hartley's comments about guys like Bouma is that he places great stock in effort.

Sven is not hurting the team at all, so that's a good sign.

But he has had no "jump" whatsoever in his game. The guy with the flu had more jump. Look at Jooris, Look at Granlund. There is no reason he can't be doing the exact same thing. A young player's job is to inject energy into the line-up. He hasn't done that at all.

If I had to guess I would say that he is absolutely terrified to make a mistake. The tentativeness is very apparent. He just needs to look at the other young guys who are making mistakes and realize its not a death sentence. He has improved his 200ft game a lot since last year, he just needs to trust his instincts and go out and play.

Way too tentative.

If the Flames gave him a serious opportunity in this call up it would be on Baertschi. Instead the partner him with Setoguchi and limit his ice time when he makes the slightest mistake then complain that he isn't producing so he hasn't "earned" it.

They should have left him in the AHL whereby was finding success. I am not sure if they failed to get the coaches endorsement on this call up or what, but the management and coaches don't appear to be on the same page on this one.
10 games, no goals, 3 assists and a -8 is not "finding success".

Sven Baertschi (X) 10 0 3 3 -8 6

That's the point though. Kid has lost his swagger and is playing lost. The constant call up then demotion dance combined with public call outs and limited ice time isn't the solution.

If the Flames think he isn't ready then let him develop for a consistent time period in the AHL.

People accuse us of being Baertschi apologists but at the same time deflect any responsibility from the Flames for a prospects development.

I can't believe this thread is all about Sven after a HUGE win in O.T.

Just guessing - Colborne > Raymond > Backlund > Stajan.

Backlund is tough. Could be another week, could be several.

Well he is day to day, whilst I'm pretty sure Backlund was week to week, and we know Stajan was out for several weeks. Not sure about Raymond.

It's not the Flames responsibility to get Sven to play well. They give him all the tools, it's his choice to show up and work. Sven just isn't putting in the proper effort, he's trying to think his way to success and he's not working. That's not on the Flames, it's not their responsibility to boost his confidence and make him feel good about himself. He has the chance to be a millionaire playing a sport, if he can't seize the chance he's not cut out for it.

I know this is gonna sound reallllllyyyy far fetched but I think Sven needs to play in the SEL or KHL to gain his offensive swagger back.

Backlund was in a similar spot as Sven and the lock out was best thing that could have happened to his game. I don't recall what league he played in, but he ended up dominating and finding his game again. He came back a completely different player.

Maybe Sven just needs a change of scenery. At this point, i'm sad to say he doesn't fit in with this team. I hope to eat pubes about this, i'd be happy to do so.

Except those 3 points came in the last few games and the GM and coach were applauding his overall play.

Regarding the team's development choices, I'm not sure what else they could do. He had a good camp, but didn't make the opening night roster. He is now here based on that good camp. He has improved his game, but like you say has completely lost his swagger.

I think it really is up to him.

Ferland's also tough to guess. I was hoping it was a mild concussion. Aside from that, I agree with you.
