However when Colborne comes back, or Stajan, or Backlund it's a pretty easy decision who I'd rather have between Jooris and Setoguchi. Or Granlund and Setoguchi.
|
When the first player comes back Setoguchi goes back to pressbox. The problem is when the 2nd , 3rd player come back. These youngsters have to play, and taking Setoguchi's spot is basically the pressbox. It's going to be tough on our GM to make one trade, let alone 2 trades ,to open playing roster spots for the youngsters.

All while maintaining the cap floor. Treliving is going to have his work cut out for him.

Raymond too. Unless you can trade a Jones, things get really really tight. Injuries will always be a factor, but there are too many kids knocking on the door. Honestly, it may get to a point that a guy like McGrattan is shown the door.

Setoguchi and Big Ern are the two I see not fitting into the plans.

A couple of times he was looking slow on the back check. If he doesn't find the Jooris hustle he won't be spending much time up here.

We went from checking the NHL standings for wildcard spot last week...
...to fantasizing about being #1 in the league just now. And this is all after 3 of our top 6 players go down.

Was Sven injured or just didn't ice time. He was a team low 7 minutes. 2 minutes less then the second lowest.

Don't want to under appreciate the best captain in the NHL... He's done it all so well that we're just used to it. What a beautiful goal from gio tonight!

Drives me nuts that he had to fight a guy who was visor tough. Just tucked his chin into his chest, completely covering him up, and threw wildly with impunity.
I get that it's an NHL mandate, but it makes for a complete advantage.

I am willing to bet that Sven is dealt in the near future. He's been passed in the organization by a few players below him in the charts at the start of camp. Disappointing but hopefully a decent piece can be brought in to improve the team or prospect pool.

Media liked to point out that he rode the end of the bench for most of the game after the second period.
I don't think he jives with Hartleys way of doing things. Or Hartley is doing the same thing to try and motivate him as he did with Johnny or Wideman.

No injury - I cant complain as we are winning but I would like to see him given more opportunities.
The argument that Johny started on the third line is bogus. Johny started on the third line and wasnt doing a whole lot. He still got a good chunk of ice time including PP time and then with more ice he found his stride.
Sven will never amount to anything unless he is given some better opportunities. I dont see why he cant replace a Seto on the PP and see a few more minutes. If he wastes the extra time, back to Addy but dont call him up for 7 minutes a night ... way better off getting 2-3x that in Addy right now.

I completely agree. I want nothing but the best for the kid and want him to succeed, but he looks lost at the moment.
I was listening on the radio the other day, and I believe it was Steinberg and Kerr talking about him. If I recall correctly, the word used by one of them was "disengaged"... I know a lot of people are upset he's not being played top six minutes or what not, but it is up to him to gain Hartley's trust, and EARN more ice time. Gaudreau, Jooris and Granlund have all done it, so it CAN be done... The ball is entirely in his court.
