Anyone else have more info on this? Link is basically conjecture with no facts but there is definitely a lot of smoke around Vanek right now.

in short, what I know from the Austrian media: Vanek placed bets on football games and lost a considerate amount of money (around a million dollars). To pay a part of his gambling debts, he gave a cheque from the Islanders to the guy who has been charged with money laundering. And that's about it, Vanek has only been to court once this summer to testify in the bookies' trial, and he is not involved in money laundering and has also not placed on hockey games.
