I agree that he looked fine, and looked similar to Johnny in his first few games.

Exactly. Hopefully he gets some powerplay opportunity on the road trip. It's tough for him cause Johnny and glencross are both playing well so that will limit his minutes.

not sure where this 5 minutes of ice time is coming from.

nhl.com lists Sven at 10:49 ice time

Thought he was just okay.

Hard to get in rhythm when you are going long periods without a shift due to not seeing the ice on the PP or PK.

One thing that is a little concerning to me is his speed, he just doesn't seem to have the speed a player like him needs in the NHL but that could have just been nerves and fatigue last night.

That's the exact situation you want. Now you can see if Baertschi will accept being on the 3rd line or push GlenX and Johnny Hockey and for Hartley to react.

My bad.

Last night it said 5, should've checked again.

Good question.

Like I said, it just looked like he was trying to play a game that was foreign to him, and he wasn't good at it. Maybe his mad skating and scoring skills are being tempered because they were leading him into situations where he was leaving the team exposed on the defensive side.

Don't know how else to say it, other than last night looked uncomfortable for him.

He looked tentative. Seems to be "over-thinking" the game. He wasn't bad, he just didn't stand out (and yes, that's a problem).

Give him some time up here, maybe even Jooris/Gaudreau him after a few games in so that he can watch the game from up above.

Patience.

He looked a little tenative, but he also had a 5 alarm scoring chance that he created by dishing off the puck and moving into the slot for a return pass. It'll come.

Maybe hes one of those guys that thinks too much, worries too much. Hopefully he will settle down a bit. Getting himself a goal would help. Hes got all the talent in the world. Hope he lets himself use it.

Had a really nice scoring chance that Price made a solid save but otherwise I didn't notice he was playing which is good and bad. Good in that I didn't notice any glaring breakdowns defensively but bad in that I guess we expect a little flash to his game. Maybe he's trying too hard to be defensively responsible?

Given his role last night, he was unnoticeable short of the scoring chance in the first period, but I'm not sure that's a bad thing. He wasn't turning the puck over, he was covering his player in the defensive zone, he was playing a role. Most of his ice time came in the third period when Montreal was pushing back. I'm not sure there's any fault on him when the team got stuck in their own zone for a little while.

He has all the tools to be a good player but it's time to start putting it together. Does that mean I think he's a bust? No, but I think we should start judging him more on his pro hockey career than his junior career. Another average season or two and then what? Time to start showing he can play.
You implied it was now or never for him. I was stating he has plenty of time as he is only 22.

All I am saying is that he has another 3 years before he is a free agent and we don't have to jump to conclusions on whether he is a bust or not, based on an emergency call up due to injuries. I am fairly certain they wanted him to stay down in the AHL for most if not all or this season.

Going from saying it is time for him to prove it in your original post, to what if he is still average after 2 years as stated above, are two completely different time frames. If after 2 more seasons he can't crack the roster then I will agree with you, but to say he has to prove it on this emergency call up is where I think you were off base.

I think the expectations may be a bit high. He has drastically improved his play away from the puck and that is the key if he wants to stay up. The offense will come once he get familiar with his line mates.

Sven's game didn't do much for me. Wasn't very noticeable. His ceiling certainly doesn't appear to be what I once thought. Hopefully he figures it out but I don't think it is going to be in Calgary.

Biggest thing I noticed was he wan''t moving his feet, everyone else was contributing forcing the play, blocking shots, using their sticks whatever, but Sven looked tentative. I am a big Sven supporter but personally there is no excuse for him he needs to bring his A game if he wants to stay up and show he belongs in the NHL. Look at Jooris he plays with his heart on his sleeve, plays like he wants to win and that he deserves to be here. I hope Sven is not feeling sorry for himself because it won't fair well for him in the long run here or anywhere else if he keeps this level of effort up.

That is my biggest concern as well. Granlund doesn't have great speed either, but he seems to be a smarter player.

I recall him having decent speed last year but I can't be sure. Maybe it was just the travel and back to back.

Some people need to check their expectations in being able to judge his play after one game.

He played in the AHL the night before and got to Montreal at 2am the day of the Falmes-Habs game. That's in addition to likely having some nerves about being back in the show.

Way too small a sample size for anyone to be judging his game.
