Don't agree about Seto. I thought it was his best game of the year, was working hard and generating chances.
Ah. Maybe just bias towards seto from previous games. I think Sven will get better. He has to earn his ice and better line mates just like gaudreau. I can respect that from Hartley.

I didn't think he was bad at all. Keep in mind he only had like 10 minutes of playing time. Look at how well Johnny has done when he was given the ice time. It would have also been nice to see him on at least one of our many power plays.

Yeah I agree, but like Johnny he has to work up to that point.

He has to earn hartleys trust like johnny did before he sees more icetime

While I agree with both of your points, I think it's not fair to judge a player by 10 minutes of ice time.

I'm not judging sven it just seems hartleys mentality is for young guys to start at the bottom and work their way up his icetime will climb

let's not forget that it was a back-to-back game for Sven. He played in Adirondack on Saturday, got to Montreal on Sunday and was thrown into the lineup with little or no practise time with the NHL team. Not exactly the easiest situation for him to instantly wow everyone. Let's be patient and give him a number of games.

Yeah, I was just giving what I thought of last game. But I'm defs not writing him off already. How can you when you have amazing examples of what patience gets you in Brodie, Backlund and even Gio to an extent.

I'm still on the Baertschi boat even though a lot of people like to write him off because we have shinier prospects now.

no way anyone should be using his game last night to draw conclusions. He travelled late the night before, just after playing a game, to even make it into montreal to play, after only one practice.

I didn't think he looked bad, though am still waiting for him to show some offensive flair. He did get a grade A scoring chance, just that price was upto the task in shutting him down.

Let's give him a few games before we start drawing large conclusions.

He wasn't great last night, but I will give him a pass based on playing the night before and having to drive up from Glen Falls.

I thought Sven was ok. Much better in the first than the latter two periods.

One point that does worry me about Sven is his skating. Watching him skate this year during preseason, I was underwhelmed by his speed. He looks like he has a labouring stride, and I rarely see him catch someone on the backcheck. I saw similar things last night, but can understand if fatigue hit him hard in the 3rd. I hope he gets a solid 4-5 game stretch here so that we can see his effort and determination level.

How did Baertschi get from Glens Falls to Montreal? A Greyhound? Chartered car? Rent a car and drive himself? Someone from the AHL team drives him?

I really believe we will see a Baertschi for Gormley swap at some point this season. This is based on no empirical evidence whatsoever, but it honestly makes way too much sense to not happen.

I think someone drove him up. Maybe I'm mistaken. For sure I think I recall something where Sven said he was on the way within 30 minutes of the game ending.

^^ Per the Herald, Baertschi was driven by Adam Berger, video coach in Adirondack, from Glens Falls to Montreal. Arrived at 2:00 am and turned back the clock one hour (for daylight savings).

To me, Baertschi last night seemed to play like Gaudreau did in his first couple games. Little confidence, and unnatural. It's like he was skating around thinking "What does coach want me to do here? What does coach want me to do there? Hope I don't screw up!".

I sometimes wonder if Baertschi needs to be given the freedom to play the game that got him drafted 13th overall, and 2 pts/game as a 19yo in the WHL. It seems like Gaudreau was given the go-ahead, as he's playing like his NCAA self these last 7 games, so why not let Baertschi do what's natural to him?

At the same time, it is concerning when a player can't be coached to play a certain way.

Is he suppressing mad skating and scoring skills, or does he just not have them at this level?

He actually only had 5 minutes of ice time.

I agree that he looked fine, and looked similar to Johnny in his first few games.

He wasn't great, and he wasn't terrible. Not really sure how some can come to these huge conclusions off a small sample size like last night.
