Flames have grown tired of the bad attitude and trade requests, showcasing him before putting on ECHL waivers

Some success at this level could do wonders for his confidence.

I think he'll get some points. Had remarkable chemistry with Monahan last year.
(Sven sparks the initial play by making a good check along the boards, clearing his zone.)
Spoiler!

It will help that he won't be expected to shoulder the offensive load. I expect he'll be on the third line with Byron and Setoguchi/Jooris. Glencross and Gaudreau will play ahead of him. That should give him some better matchups, and just let him go play his game.

How can be expected to succeed if they don't put him on the top line with our best players? If they do that, the Flames are clearly trying to sabotage him because Burke and Hartley hate him.

I guess Treliving and Pascal liked what they saw when they were both in attendance for the last baby Flames game

Sven is more playmaker than sniper. He needs to be paired with a guy like monahan who is a shooter.

I'm not a Sven hater, I actually thought he was overly criticized last year and thought he should have stayed up. But it's funny how heavy the support is for him by some posters. He's a pretty average small forward.

His tenure up here will depend a lot on his own zone play.

I'm still really rooting for Sven. I really hope he can shine in these next couple of games.

Would be somewhat poetic to see him light it up for a few games. Has there ever been a player that was mediocre in the minors only to become quite successful as an NHLer?

Lots and lots. Ryan Johansen comes to mind. Healthy scratch for his ahl club leading into the playoffs then a 30 goal scorer in the NHL the next year

Ya, I don't follow the AHL affiliate closely enough to form my own independent opinion, but based on what I've read here and in the press, is it perhaps the case that the Flames are simply doing what they said would do? Learn to become a well-rounded player and the opportunities will come. It's not just about offence with Sven, and while he's struggled offensively, it looks like both he and the team have taken that plan to heart.

If anything, this should show that management likes Sven. He is being given the benefit of the doubt with this call-up.

Sometimes players will do a bit better playing with more skilled players in the NHL. IIRC when Moss was called up his NHL stats were better than his AHL stats.
