Been waiting to see if Ferland could be a prototypical power forward since the Flames drafted him. He has shown that he might have that potential.
The Flames desperately need this element on the team.
Fingers crossed.

Seems like the kids aren't the only ones trying to score.

Lol, what ? Malkin, Ovie, and Stamkos are true franchise players. The proof is in their hardware. Doughty hasn't won any hardware including a Norris. Im not even sure where the arguments start.

Mine would be Doughty>Malkin>Ovechkin>Stamkos. In terms of Hardware earned.
The only hardware that really matters is the Stanley Cup.

I would take Duncan Keith over Doughty without a second thought. 2 Norris trophies and also 2 cups

In fairness being the catalyst from the back end on Two Stanley cup winning teams and an Olympic Gold medal team has to account for something.
He is definitely in the conversation with the top five to seven players in the league for sure. Opinions will vary on his placement in those rankings but he is right there. Norris or not he's amazing.

Doughty has 2 Gold medals. One when he was 20.
He was only 22 when he won his first cup too.

Doughty is no doubt a very good defenceman. But so is Keith, Chara, Subban and Karlsson. All I know is, if its draft day and Im picking between Ovie, Malkin, Stamkos and Doughty- Doughty would be last in my books. In fact, I would be picking Keith, Chara, Subban AND Karlsson before him. Just my opinion.

What exactly are you laughing at? Doughty is arguably one of the best defenseman in the game right now and would be on any top 3 list. #1 dman with Doughty's ability to control the game, and step up in clutch situations is hard to find. His performance in the Kings' 2 Cup runs and the Olympics speaks for itself. Stamkos and Doughty are also only 24 - plenty of time to add to their hardware.

Fair enough - your opinion. But Doughty is more of a complete player than both Subban and Karlsson. I would definitely take him over those two and probably Chara as well just based on age alone. Might be different if it was a younger Chara of course. I'll give you that it's a toss up between Keith and Doughty.

And in all fairness as well Doughty did play great for team Canada indeed- love him for it but that was also a stacked team. Also, just because Doughty was fortunate enough to be on two Stanley Cup winning teams doesn't make him a franchise player. He's a damn good D man no question but night in and night out, I think the other D-men I mentioned bring it every game- not in just brilliant periodic stretches.

Ok, I will give you that Doughty may be a more complete player than Karlsson, but I think Karlsson is more valuable to his team.
However, what's your reasoning behind Doughty being a more complete Dman than Subban ? I disagree with this and if that was the case, Doughty would of beat out Subban for the Norris right ? As for Chara's age, it's not about that, it's how valuable he is to his team and what he brings. It's not about future planning, it's about the now. And from what I can tell so far this year, Doughty hasn't wowed anyone with anything so far this year as being a standout dman let alone a franchise player- its in spurts with him. He is not a franchise player the other 3 are (in the origional discussion).

Flames recall Ferland. Backlund on IR with abdominal issue
As per the ACTUAL thread, sad to see Backs sidelined. I hope Granlund and Ferland make an impact. Especially Granlund, he has shown already that he can hang with the big boys and it will be interesting to see how his eventual progression stacks up against his brother's.

Tough luck on Backlund being injured. Hopefully he just takes the time he needs to properly recover.
Great opportunity for Ferland. This team has been needing a player like him very badly. Hopefully he does well. I always think he is going to become a huge fan favorite.
With that, poor Adirondack. Finally when things looked like they were starting to come together for them, they lose their top 2 players. Poirier should be returning in the next two weeks, but this is going to be tough for them. Hopefully they just pull together down there.

Yikes. It's now official: The Flames have a bigger gap in the middle than Alfred E. Neuman.
(What, me worry?)

Sven's time to shine as far as I'm concerned. Still have Reinhart, Knight, Arnold at Centre. Still have Wotherspoon and Sieloff on D. Sven can become a star there right now, AND become the next call up. How long before Jones is hurt?

Yep. He would've made it last year if he wasn't hurt for most of the year

These are accolades because of the great teams he's played on. He's a great player but the 25th man on the roster can have a cup at 22. Also playing for any team not named Canada kind of puts you at a disadvantage to win a gold medal. I think people are looking at the players now as opposed to each of them at their best. A case of what have you done for me lately.
