Wow... when injuries strike, they really strike.

It's nice to have a little centre depth (better than years past), but that still doesn't look so good.

This has to be hard on Adirondack.

The Flames should sign Loktionov to a 2-way deal.

The Backlund situation certainly explains the desire to keep pushing Colborne to C.

I have heard Backlund may still have surgery if its concluded this is a Sports Hernia. Not out of the realm of possibility.

Tough one for Backlund, there is going to be a lot of inexperience meshed with pluggers for the foreseeable future. Could be a tough month or so for the Flames.

Backlund's in-ability to stay healthy has now officially moved into the realm of "bad luck" to a huge and frustrating on-going problems that is impacting his value and ability to be a key part of this team.

Jeez, would it be prudent to go out and sign someone like Andrei Loktionov to a two way deal for the season? I know there's Knight and Reinhart left in A but wow things too a dive real fast. I don't see the downside of signing him, either gets called up and earns some NHL time or bolsters the C depth in Addy while the others get their call up.
EDIT: Bonus points for plucking a C off of the UFA list that EDM can not sign to help their terrible C depth.

Bennett- done
Backlund- done for a couple weeks
Colborne- could be back tomorrow, could be back next week
Stajan- Aye Caramba 6 weeks

Thank the gods Granlund was sitting right there waiting for the call.

Friedman on Sportsnet960 wonders if the Flames would be interested in Kyle Brodziack or Jay Mcclement (pure speculation on his part)

this is how you 'tank' naturally.

sign some vets to create competition, don't ice a team of kids out of camp, when injuries happen kids get their chance. when losses do happen, the culture of the team is not affected because the team knows that if they play hard they are in every game, and injuries are something every team deals with.

This should serve as some perspective for those hand full of people who were having minor hissy fits about there not being room for rookies a few weeks ago.

See what happens?

I wouldn't be looking to sign anyone let alone trading for someone. It would be a different thing altogether if we were going to be a playoff team, but in year two of a rebuild with the best draft in may be 20 years coming up I can't see management being too eager to bring someone in.

Wow, ridiculous. I'm all for Ferland being called up and I think he deifnently deserves it. However, I wonder if calling up knight wouldn't be the better option, because he is at least a center and has a little experience in the NHL. Stajan, Backlund, Colborne all out. Hartley is going to have to get creative with whose takes face-offs in what scenarios. Oh well, still excited to see how Granlund and Ferland do.
