This is stupid. Might as well abolish all cheerleaders, fan girls, ice girl etc everywhere, then. No one had to sign up to be an ice girl if it's truly "objectifying", but they do, and seem to enjoy it. Let these young women do what they want.

I suppose one thing is they could change the outfits to help from giving out that impression (plus it must be freaking freezing). I'd still find it okay if they were in touques and jerseys. But otherwise I don't see the fuss. If this is mainly a concerned parent thing, then just worry about your own if you find it offensive. Don't let your child get into a job like that. As for these other girls, it was their decision, so let them be.

That's not a compromise and as I said before it's worse as it's the closest thing to wearing nothing as you can see exactly if they are wearing underwear, what type, and camel toe. That's kind of my issue in this thread is that the yoga pants are becoming commonplace and they really don't hide anything yet some people are outraged over some young ladies in skirts that show off legs no different than shorts.

I guess you missed or ignored this post.

It pretty well hit it on the head IMO:

I certainly couldn't give a #### if you wanted to wear underpants made of clear duct tape, but if you were a plumber and your employer mandated it as part of your work dress, I probably wouldn't want you fixing my toilet.

Essentially, it boils down to "Why?", not "Don't!".

A tracksuit is logical as they are doing the same job as their male counterpart(s). Are you suggesting that they wouldn't be able to do their job in a tracksuit?
Well like it or not, part of their job is being sexy. So no, they can't do their job dressed like men.

Well, that goes to show what I know about women's fashion. I thought all the women were wearing them to make a fashion statement and instead they are just lazy asses.

Or just girls that like feeling comfortable and don't want to conform to what society believes fashion is.

I'm not following you. I don't have an issue with women wearing yoga pants. I just stated that they don't leave much to the imagination. With the rapid popularity of yoga pants I would say you would have to ask the women wearing them "Why?" as I'm only responsible for dressing myself. There is nothing wrong with women wearing yoga pant or skirts which is why the entire issue is silly.

The point of this is discussion is Why do the Flames feel that the female members of their staff need to wear different clothing to do the same job?

Why don't we have ushers in skin tight tops, or how come I can't buy a hotdog from an employee in the a tiny dress.

I'm not the person you were responding to, but I'll answer: no, the F&I girls absolutely wouldn't be able to do their job in a tracksuit, because their job is NOT to remove snow from the ice during stoppages in play but rather to look pretty in short skirts and tight tops to enhance the game experience for male fans who like to look at attractive young women. At least a few of the pro-ice girl people in this thread have enough intellectual honesty to acknowledge this.

If the F+I girls were one of the primary marketing tools of the Calgary Flames then you would have an argument for market pandering.

But I have yet to see or here one person who has tried to convince me to buy a ticket because Britney or Paige or Candy (picking random names here btw) was scrapping the ice tonight.

I have yet to see a Billboard ad that reads

Tonight at 7:30 the Fire and Ice Girls will be skating

Oh and the Flames play some body or another.

Great you made me forget what the original font was, thanks a lot. screw it and carry on I say.

to be very honest when your sitting in the second balcony of the dome your not really seeing the F+I girls around as they scrape the ice.

the stripper comparison is ludicris as is the hooters comparison that's why I mentioned that previously. With the Stripper comparison the primary product is the stripper and the hyper sexualization of fantasy to make money off of said girl.

Hands up guys, how many of you have a fantasy of a girl in what's basically a cheerleader costume shoveling a rink.

Yup girls with shovels, that's a total sex fantasy if you live in Alabama.

And inclusion? Come on, if having some girls skating around in stylized jersey's with bare legs is making you feel not included that to me is searching for an excuse to get angry about something. The F+I girls are way down on any marketing list behind, hockey, music, prize give aways, Harvey the Hound, Celebrity zamboni rides freaking trivia contests your program etc etc etc. Bottom line is that they don't even play any signature music when they come out, if they were playing "Patricia the Stripper" or something tacky by Madonna everytime they came on the ice with a booming voice that said "Ok guys get ready for pant pant the Fire and Ice girls".

This whole thing is ridiculous and crazy.

Hell just for fun I went to their section of the Flames website for the first every time to look at their pictures. did I see them in booty shorts with 10 inch spikes, a slightly leaned over cleavage shot with a come hither Captain we're waiting look in their eyes?

Nope

I saw pretty much a few college looking girls wearing Flames jersey's and skirts that we're longer then a few that I saw at a meeting today. If the Flames are sexualizing these girls to make a profit. Clearly they're doing it wrong.

Unless their target market is the Amish.

note, I didn't intent to upset any Amish folks who are somehow browsing this site at the moment.

Well the Flames are in the business of making money. Obviously the fire and ice girls make them money, or else they wouldn't have kept them around for this long.

I think the F&I girls still have more clothes on than half the girls I see walking around in the summer.

It still has #### all to do with hockey.

Then again, I hate mascots as well. Pandering to children and the mentally infirm, those smug ####s.
