Default Nashville in-Staals some confidence on top line

Nashville and Dallas hooked up on a deal to send Eric Staal and Ryan Kesler to new homes. The Predators also include a third in the upcoming draft.

"The idea of having Staal play on a line with Jagr or St. Louis was just too enticing. Who knows...maybe if things get tough he can play with both of them." said GM Slava.

While things have started fairly slow in Nashville, the Predators aren't quite ready to throw in the towel. Through 5 games we are 2-2-1, we are going to mix things up now and see if we can get something jump started for the season.

Thanks to Dallas for the talks and quick deal.

Hmm

I've always been a Kesler fan - I think too many teams underrate his defensive play in the sim.

Kesler is on the upswing this season I think and obviously Staal is heading down.

Really wanted the Preds 3rd - think it will be a good one. Kesler was a nice adder.

I like this deal for the Preds personally. IMO E.Staal while having an injury is still a tier above Kesler. The question is whether he can return to form.

Even deal, but I like the potential upside for Nashville.

Even deal, but I think you win with two way centers so that gives Dallas the edge for me.

This deal absolutely is better value for the Preds. Staal id still an all-star albeit in a terrible situation. For me, this was about addressing a specific desire for a strong 2-way center. There just are not that many of them in the league, at least compared to scoring centres. Staal was a redundant piece with backstrom and stastny. I don't mind over paying when I'm targeting a specific player for specifc reasons.

All that said, kesler is in a fantastic situation with the ducks. If healthy he should put up 65 points and be a +100. (Because everyone on the ducks seems to be). Wouldn't be surprised if kesler and Staal had the same rating next year.
