Fire & Ice Girls: Sexist Anachronism?

My SO enjoys the F&I girls more than I. I think in the last discussion, quite a few others expressed the same surprise.

I find it slightly awkward due to my relationship situation... Would be better (for me) if the skirts were slightly (1-2") longer and maybe the top a size less tight? Better yet, they should all wear scorchy costumes while shoveling the snow.

The Philly guys are dressed in curling uniforms. I can understand why it's not as accepted. Fans think the movement is too fast and no one is yelling, "Hard! Harder!"

But if Patrick Chan started being a F&I guy wearing figure skating clothing rather than a curling outfit, I think I would be interested. Again, better yet if he's wearing a scorchy costume.

I guess it's just entertainment, but I'm more partial to the entertainment value of the timbits hockey though. Again, even better if they're all wearing scorchy costumes.

Honestly with the sheer amount of girls and women that go out in public daily in those skin tight yoga pants that pretty well leave nothing to the imagination I am having a real hard time coming down on cheerleader outfits.

Cheerleading is also a huge institution at a lot of American Universities. I dont see that going by the wayside anytime soon.

Maybe in reality that's exactly how it would go down if they banned the FoI girls; but I know personally I wouldn't alter my sporting event attendance patterns either way.

I am interested in seeing her grow up in a world of equal values.

I am still wondering why they need to wear the short skirts and tight tops to do their job.

When did we go from women liberating themselves and having the right to where whatever they want without being treated as scarlet letter adulterers to this opinion paper where it's claimed women are being exploited for taking advantage of the rights they created for themselves?

My feeling is that a woman be allowed to choose to wear whatever they want be it a bikini at the beach or a burka on skates. If they apply for a job or position where a certain outfit or uniform is required, as long as they have the right to walk away from that job and not forced to do it, then everything is fine.

Brenda McCallum is simply trying to get her name out there by writing something that she feels is deep and provoking. It's really just amateur belly-aching without considering women wanted to get to the point where they have the choice without being treated like prostitutes for a simple preference in clothing.

I went to a Czech Extraliga game last month and they had (very attractive) cheerleaders positioned on a special stage adjacent to the end boards. It was brilliant.

The Flames should consider incorporating the some thing similar into the new arena!

Maybe because they umm.... like to? Nobody holds a gun to their heads and forces them to take that job and wear those clothes. They do it because they get paid and they obviously like showing themselves off and getting attention. Why should attractive women not be allowed to show them selves off if they are proud of their appearance? I see muscular dudes strutting without their shirts in the summer and it's the same thing. Some people that look good like to show it off. There is really nothing else to it. When you see girls in the mall wearing tight shorts and skirts do you feel it's your place to ensure they can't wear those clothes even if that's what they like to wear? You are essentially no different than the anti-abortion crowd that wants to dictate what others can or can't do. It's not your place to dictate fashion as people should be free to dress how they want regardless of how you personally feel about it. You are free to raise your daughter as you wish but you can't take away others choices to suit your personal view of equal values which isn't nearly as equal as you think it is.

Society changes and our expectations change over time. There is nothing wrong with assessing how we do things right now and see if they are something that fit with our modern expectations. To criticize those who question the necessity of the F&I girls for expressing their opinion, seems to be as heavy handed as the PC opinions that you are criticizing.

Further to EE's point in respect of what undercoverbrother (UCB) wrote, do you (UCB) tell your daughter to wear a loose fitting SCUBA suit to the beach or the pool when she is playuing with her friends because there is no need with where a bikini, or tankini, or tight full torso covering bathing suit because it's exploitation?

Not trying to start an argument I just feel like too many people want to sit on both sides of the fence and say that it's exploitation here but want to protects the rights to wear the same thing at a different venue.

visually speaking, i enjoy them - but that being said, they could change them to anything else and i would not care.

one night the wife got he company's corporate seats (whcih were right down by the flames bench), talk about a great view - that one gal has incredible curves - but at the same time, i needed to be casual given the wife was right there.....

It's also a staple in KHL games. This is HC Vityaz's arena. The cheerleaders are positioned on a stage above the goalie. It's considered part of the game entertainment.
