I had some Famous Grouse last night for the first time, not bad.
I am fairly new to Scotch in the last 3-4 years and haven't ventured out too much , so not an expert taster by any means. 90% of the time I have Glenfiddich 12yo but I have tried others (Grant's, Johnny Walker)
I need to buy a new bottle, any recommendations for someone with my limited experience?

Try Oban as a treat. It's more expensive but worth it IMO....a good "graduation" from Fiddich 12yr (though can't go wrong with that!).
Highland Park 12 yr also can't go wrong.
You probably want to stay away from the Highlands (region) if you don't like peat, I'm the same way. I got a really nice bottle of Glenmorangie Nectar D'Or and it was horrible...wayyyy too intense for me.
PS. Go to Highlander Wine & Spirits (one in Marda, one in Richmond in SW), they always have someone very knowledgeable on scotch that will give you a free 5 minute education and make recommendations. Or I'm sure any of the other high end liquor stores in town. Just ask!

For those of you asking around, always gotta show some love to Ralfy.
His latest just happens to be an 18 y/o of my favourite label, and it also has some great pointers and history on older scotch.

I really should've posted this sooner, but I completely forgot until they emailed me today! Anyone else buy one? Maybe you can still get one, I'm not sure. Its a scotch advent calendar. For $360 you get 24 x 50ml scotches. They are a surprise, but as you can read one of the bottles is a pretty fancy 40 year old. Looking forward to running through this in December!

For those in the know, is there a major difference between the Kensington version over this one? I am unsure of what the implication of 3 independent bottlers means.
I've just very recently began to drink scotch. My first bottle has been a Glenfiddich 12, I find myself having to place an ice cube, or at least a few drops of water in my glass to make it enjoyable for me... Although as I've been drinking more of it, I can dilute the scotch less and less.
Although not technically scotch, I also have a bottle of Jameson's Select Reserve Small Batch which is delicious, probably my favourite whiskey that I've tried.

I have some tasting notes for some others on my blog: Singlemaltscotches.blogspot.ca. You will see that I really did not like Glen Garrioch.
Your comment that Jura Superstition is like "baby Laphroaig" has earned you a follower. Without giving any spoilers, I thought your review on this particular scotch was pretty darn good.
I look forward to your future reviews.

If you like Irish Whiskey, I strongly suggest picking up a bottle of Writer's Tears.

Great video, haven't heard of him.
Love Springbank, it's been my fave for years. Have never pulled the trigger on the 18 y.o. though, awfully tempting.

Springbank is really nice. Not over the top in any direction, just a fine Scotch
