Good to see. As terrible as this tragedy is, and it just rips your heart out; it fills me with pride to see a real hero emerge. It eases the pain a little.
I hope that the first responders that started CPR are also recognized. They didn't know if there was still a shooter in the area and put themselves at risk to try and save him. That to me is exactly what this country is about.

I keep hearing the media refer to yesterday's "tragedy". Now don't get me wrong, the murder of an unarmed soldier guarding a memorial is a despicable and cowardly act, but to me yesterday had the potential to be a tragedy but was contained rather quickly thanks to the quick and courageous acts of some public servants. The needless death of Nathan Cirillo is tragic, but the events of yesterday are not a tragedy. If anything they proved how competent our law enforcement personnel are in preventing any other casualties

Well it can't be tragic but not a tragedy.
It IS a tragedy. I see what you're saying, in that it turned out much better than it could have, but it is no less a tragedy.

I also think our firearm laws played a role...this assassin had a hunting rifle and would have had been able to inflict much more carnage if he had assault weaponry.
I always think the cops should have the biggest guns.

To me though calling it a tragedy puts it in comparison to the Boston bombing or one of the multitude of mass shootings down south. It was no where near any of that in terms of casualties or fear/panic that was induced, and IMO there should be a different term that applies which recognizes how good the response from police was in preventing a true tragedy

Honestly, I think the laws did less than we like to believe in this specific case. There were no shortage of people the killer could have taken out if he were so inclined. He didn't. That implies that he went into Parliament with a target in mind, rather than intent on general mayhem.
But in the general sense, I absolutely agree. If this person had been intent on general mayhem, easy access to assault weaponry would have led to a far more significant loss of life. The laws are good.
It's fairly remarkable - and commendable - that CNN managed to cover Vickers' entry into the House with a proper level of solemnness. And yeah, that was a... slightly emotional re-opening of Parliament. Can't imagine what was going through his mind returning one day later to that ovation.

Have to wonder how Kevin Vickers feels, I can't imagine its easy taking a life regardless of circumstance.
I often wonder how the other soldier that was on duty feels. Could he has done something to save Cpl Cirillo, unlikely, but that will run through his head.

Ok I don't get this one....Canada is the moose and America is the eagle, got it. America is carrying us because we are hurt? How are they doing that exactly? Seems like Canadians are doing a damn good job right now helping other Canadians. Maybe I am reading too much into it but it seems to me that this artist is needlesly injecting 'Merica into this. I get that it's suppose to be a supportive comic...but it should really be Canadians carrying the injured moose. Ahh, I am probably being too butthurt over this...carry on.

Is it confirmed that there was more than one soldier at the War Memorial?
