Canadian police are investigating a man named as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau as a possible suspect in the shootings around parliament, a source familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.

Two U.S. officials said that U.S. agencies have been advised that the shooter was a Canadian convert to Islam. One of the officials said that the man was from Quebec.

I am at a loss for words here. Every photo I see of Cpl. Cirillo makes me both sad and angry. The shooter is a ####ing coward.

Ugh, this is CityTV's new banner for the shooting.

Really? Couldn't have something showing respect to the fallen soldier or the bravery of those involved? Had to go with storm clouds and the word terror eh?

CBC News was soundly beaten by various journalists on Twitter with word the War Memorial soldier had died, but when time came for Mansbridge to bring this sad fact into his coverage, he warned he had “bad news” to report, and then very carefully explained how CBC came to believe this information was correct. It wasn’t loud and urgent. It was quiet and somber. And as such, it felt very, very important. It felt proper.
Very glad our cultural differences have prevented the CBC from becoming CNN.

Pump 'em full of fear and then sell them a new car, better razor, sexier dress.

Condolences to the family of Cpl. Cirillo.
In all pictures he seemed really proud to serve this great country of ours, and I am humbled to have servicemen like him protecting us.
I will never forget this day or where I was when I heard the news of the attack on our capital.

I've already seen some American jackasses mocking Canada's gun laws for not preventing this. From all accounts the shooter had a shotgun, not a semi-automatic rifle. Who knows how much worse today would have been had the shooter been able to get easy access to more powerful hardware

That CityTV "Terror in Canada" screen graph is a complete embarrassment. I expect that from SunTV.

Seeing those pictures of the victim made it really hit harder. So tragic.

From starseed's link:
Quote:
As I watched via the network’s live stream in New York, I never heard a second of dramatic music, never saw a full-screen wipe with a catchy graphic like TERROR ON PARLIAMENT HILL, and never, ever heard Mansbridge or any of the CBC’s reporters dip even a toe into the waters of self-promotion.
Quote:
CBC’s coverage was, well, very Canadian.
If only all Canadian media was like that. CityTV's graphic is disgusting.
