As someone who works in law enforcement and have worked crisis communications, this image is a really good guide on what to expect in active, dynamic situations and how the media reports them.

Look at the second paragraph - "Multiple gunmen stormed..."

That is blatant hyperbole and fear mongering. Utter crap.

Maybe the "spike in ISIS chatter", if there was a spike, was due to the f-18s that just flew out of Cold Lake yesterday to join in operations?

And linking to that junk simply inflames an already tense situation.

Yes, it's wrong.

That Fox article states, "Multiple gunmen stormed the Canadian Parliament complex on Wednesday". It's been confirmed that only one shooter entered Parliament, and according to eyewitnesses, he was walking calmly through the building, not "storming".

Just don't read the comments. Except for this one, because it is so bad that it has to be a parody.

They picked Canada because Canada has Draconian, Euro-style gun laws. They know as they spread their terror across the country that citizens cannot defend themselves like we can here in America.

The treating speculation as fact caught my eye - and is typical Fox news style. However, I believe they did get the "ISIS chatter" part correct. Was that not the reason why the government raised its terror alert several days ago?

Twitter absolutely sucks - people are tweeting and re-tweeting a picture of the two honour guard soldiers right before the attack and making it out like they are 2 new guards standing by right now......sigh.

Maybe a crap new source (Fox News), but if the meat of the article is true, the message comes across. ISIS chatter will most certainly be looked at by CSE and CSIS, and probably already was being monitored for weeks prior.

I was just linking the article because of the ISIS chatter, and a source for identifying that chatter... that's all. I clearly mentioned that in my original post.

Trash the article all you want as some of the article deserves it, but completely not why I linked it.

I thought during the press conference they said the level has been at medium for the last three years or did I just miss something?

True story: last week a sportsnet post popped up on my facebook feed and the top comment (30 likes) was someone complaining about the new "American style" PBP and demanding Charlie Simmer back

Clearly they did, didn't notice the people behind them.

the other thing that is really weird is didn't the terror alert go up a level yesterday?

you'd think that would prompt some security at the front door of the nation's parliament office building in the capital.

This was from early this morning (before the ottawa event):

Canada has raised its terror threat level from low to medium but has stressed there is no specific threat.

A government official said the move was in response to an increase in online "general chatter" from radical groups including Islamic State and al-Qaeda.

Ya, putting aside the mistake about multiple gunmen, several media outlets have reported about the increased online chatter in the days before the event. A guest on AM770 was talking about it earlier. You could probably find another article about it.

Which US news sources have been calling this the "Canadian 9/11"? CBC keeps alluding to this being done by US sources and I can't help but think that this is one of the stupidest comparisons and cheapens one of the worst events to ever happen in modern history.
