Wilson might want to check his numbers again, as I think he's using stats from behindthenet.ca which aren't updated that often and don't include the last 2 games. Once you include those games (where shot attempts with Gaudreau on the ice were 9 for and 35 against) he's actually one of the worst on the Flames.
Not that a rookie's possession numbers 5 games into a season mean a whole hell of a lot, but if that's Wilson's argument he should probably use accurate and up to date numbers.

It will be on Sportsnet West. If you live in the Flames' region and get SNW, you'll get the game.

For sure, Sportsnet West, it's listed as TBA atm but it should 100% be the hockey game

The issue with Kent, and some of the other stats guys, is that they take possession stats as the end all, be all.
Sure Gaudreau has the 4th best possession, he is also playing extremely sheltered minutes though and has look very tentative on the ice.
Plus the frequency of games (including a bout with the flu), which is much different for a college player, and it was also noted in here that Johnny frequently looks out of breath on the bench.
This is not Johnny being punished for poor play, or a shot at him as a hockey player. It is a natural step in the process of him becoming a pro.

Go flames, I can feel a win tonight again. The boys are starting to gel a bit better now. I think Colby will score a goal and Backlund will have a big game!
I am excited for this one.

Gaudreau is participating in the warm-up. This doesn't necessarily mean he'll be playing, but it at least shows that it is truly a game-time decision.

Why are you assuming that KW is taking those stats purely at face value?
He never implied that Gaudreau was the 4th best player on the team. He knows as well as anyone that Gaudreau is being given easier minutes
He's just pointing out that he's actually performed rather admirably in those minutes and really, there's no reason for him to be scratched. The Flames do not have assets that can be put in Gaudreau's position and perform better. It just doesn't make sense.
And can we please stop this "if you're a stats guy, you are an idiot because you don't actually watch the game" mantra? Would you have rather KW tweeted "Gaudreau is playing pretty well; shouldn't be scratched"? How is that any better?

The numbers he's using aren't even right. The only forwards with worst CorsiRel are Bouma, Stajan and Bollig. Even McGrattan is better in that category.
If you go with Corsi%, he moves ahead of McGrattan.. but still behind a lot more than 4 forwards.

I really hope Hartley puts Gaudreau in tonight just to make some people stop bitching. Go Jooris!

Has he played alright? Sure
Has he been any better than Setoguchi, Jones, McGrattan etc? Not really and those guys have also been healthy scratches so far this season.
Explain to me why Gaudreau shouldn't be a scratch? What has he done that is so remarkable that he can't take a night off in the press box.
And like I said I'm not sure why people look at this as punishment, it's not, it's just a step for a young player adjusting to the NHL.

I really hope that Hartley has better things to do than to keep checking his CP feed on Tapatalk to see how people feel about his decisions.

If Jooris wasn't coming in to the lineup I wouldn't be too excited to watch the game. Half the excitement of watching our games this season is knowing the possibility that JH might break out and make a highlight of the night.
Much of the rest of the excitement is seeing our suddenly awesome goaltending duo and our top pairing. The forwards haven't given me much to salivate over yet as a fan...

I really hope you don't think that I believe Hartley reads CP to monitor the feelings of the fans. Perhaps, just perhaps, it will be a coincidence that I hope Hartley puts Gaudreau in and that Hartley does so.
